I am transferring points to a friend who has a December UY. I have a March UY. The points in question are 2004 points. If I transfer them now, when will they have to be used by? Dec or March 2005? MS told me that they would need to be used by Dec which is my friend's UY. Does that sound right??

Thanks!

the points in question retain their own uy banking and home resort, so they will expire feb. 28 2005.

oh, make sure you transffer the points into your friends right uy, even though its 2004 , some of us are still in our 2003 uy until we reach our uy, for instance your uy is march so you are in 2004 uy, your friend uy is dec. he is still in 2003, until dec.
if your friend needs the points before dec. for a ressies then he needs points transfer into his 2003 uy if its points after dec. for a ressies then it would be his 2004 uy

hope its not to confusing:earseek:

lol, I think I followed that. So if I transfer the points into her 2004 UY, will they still expire on Feb 2005? And can I transfer into 2004 Dec UY now or not until Dec?

This is trickier than rocket science!

The MS computers may still have a problem tracking transferred points. These points are supposed to retain their original resort and Use Year, but the computer sometimes loses that and just dumps them in with the new contract's resort and UY. If the points are needed for reservations past her UY or for their original resort, she may have to insist that MS track the points manually.

This will eventually get straightened out in the computer, so make sure everyone understands what needs to be done in the meantime.

Good luck!

yes, the points because they are yours and your uy is march and you are using your 2004 points they will expire feb. 2005. unless like WebmasterDoc said in his post.

yes, you can transfer the points now and you have to ask ms to put the points into your friends 2004 uy manual. otherwise ms may try to put them in her 2003 uy.

your friend could always bank your points once they have been transferred.

Thanks Doc and wdwstar. This stuff is complicated that is for sure.

I am going to find out when she intends to use the points and see if we can transfer them closer to that time to avoid MS complications :)

A very important caveat, WebmasterDoc! I had some points transferred the other way around from Pumbaa_'s example (we have Feb, those transferring have Dec); when our friend transferred in her December UY 2003 points, they ended up in our Feb 2004 UY, with our banking deadlines, etc. We had wanted the points to retain the Dec characteristics for a Jan ressie. After she transferred them, they were stuck in our UY, and there was nothing further they could do. So the lesson here is: Do a three party conference call with you, your freind and MS, and make sure that they maintain the UY and resort characteristics you want them to keep.

In our case, no harm done, tho it would have been nice to have the flexibility of the other person's UY on these points. We just banked the points we weren't using for our January ressie into next year.

Hmmm, that's clear as mud, isn't it? I hope my recent experience (and this ramble about it) sheds a little bit of light on the subject

Jody, please take a look at the last post in this thread:
2005 points transfered 2004?

I gave an example in response to a question posed by OnTheRocks that might help you understand the limitations in MS's computer system.

Also, it might be helpful for you to reference the link in my sig for more detailed rules + guidelines.

Let me know if you have any questions! Good luck.
