Transfer Points Question

As you can tell, I am a NEWBIE. If I transfer points into my account and can't use them, can I bank them? Do they have to be the same resort or use year? Any info would be much appreciated!

Yes, transferred points may be banked. They can be from any resort. MS will usually require that they be from the same Use Year (2007 , 2008) but any month within that year is acceptable. Transferred points are supposed to retain their original Home Resort status and Use Year (month). In the past MS had difficulty tracking those statistics and the transferred points seemed to assume the same resort status and Use Year of the master contract.

Reportedly, MS is trying to do a better job of tracking those transferred points, but there have been a number of reports that transferred points - especially after being banked - have become part of the contract into which they were transferred.

If you need additional points to make your reservation, but you are short, you can ask another member to transfer points to you. Technically there isn't supposed to be any compensation between members for this. And there are many stipulations with the point transfer. Like, only one per account per use year - either into the account or out of the account. Once they are transferred into your account, they belong to you and not to the other member. You can use them any way you want within the DVC rules. The transferred points retain their home resort and use year deadlines.

Last time I transferred points was for a 1/07 trip.

MS cautioned that they could take up to 3 business days to be manually posted to our account and that they would hold the "home field advantage & UY" of the original resort...not sure whether they really do or just stating that they reserve the option to do so.

I did specifically look to purchase the "correct" points allowing for the difference in UY, jik.
