Transfer Points & Different Resorts?

If you transfer points in from another member with a different resort, what resort are those points for? Say I have SSR and the transfer points are from OKW - Do the transferred points stay OKW, or become SSR? (we're talking about 8-11 months out here, since at 7 mo it becomes irrelevant).

Or what about this scenario? Say we have two contracts, one at SSR, one at BCV (we're in the middle of an add-on there now). We transfer points in from someone with say...VWL. Do those points stay VWL, or become SSR, or become BCV during months 8-11?

I'm just wondering in case such a situation should come up. Not really planning anything at the moment, but thinking about that point-eating Grand Villa in the future lol.

So in other words... if we ever wanted to rent more points for a GV vacation, would we need to make certain the other member's points were SSR (or somewhere else with a GV?)

Transferred points are supposed to retain their original Use Year and home resort status.

In reality, DVC has a problem tracking those details and usually the points will assume the Use Year and home resort of the account into which they were transferred.

If you have points transferred specifically to be able to reserve a GV at 11 months or a BW view villa at 11 months, MS can (with some reluctance) manually track the points to allow that, but the software presently have difficulty doing that automatically.

Keep in mind that this current situation could change without any notice, so it would be wise to consult with MS with your specific situation before depending on the transferred point behaving as you think.

The points will definitely be yours, there is no question about that.

The only question is what resort and use year they will maintain. In this instance they are 'suppose' to maintain SSR December UY status. However if you don't have an SSR December UY contract, but do have a July SSR conract, the points will probably transfer to that account and thus would become SSR July 2006 points.

But as mentioned, this is only because the DVC computer systems aren't set up to assign a special resort and use year month and use year to transferred points, thus they assign them to something you already own.

No one here knows for sure the status of any computer systems update DVC may be working on, and thus sometime in the future points may indeed retain their original status.

You won't know for sure and would have to check with DVC about the true status of those points. They will absolutely be your points, but the Resort and use year month may change, or may not.
