I know I can probably look this up in my DVC guidebook, but the answers from everyone out there always seem more complete.

What are the guidelines for transferring points? For example, if my brother wanted to transfer points to me, but not make a reservation FOR me, so that I would have those points added to my points to use when I needed--are their any restrictions as to number of times one can do this? what are the use uear and banking aspects? what points would be used first-banked or transferred?

Thanks for any input.

You might want to call MS as the rules have apparently changed somewhat.

The written rules says only one in OR one out transfer per year and it implies use year. Though the written info says transferred points cannot be banked, they can now be banked as of 2000. You can only transfer non banked or non borrowed points and they retain the original use year and home resort. This can be a problem if your combining points and the use year or home resort for the 2 sets of points is different.

It has been discussed that the rules have changed a little allowing for more than one transfer but I've seen several versions presented and hesitate to write down something I'm not pretty certain of. You may want to do a search over the past month or two.

Dean, as usual, is not only right, but complete. I have also seen conflicting reports of the changes. Mostly in number of transfers in versus out.

Nice to see Dean finally become a sponser, I thought he would have been right behind me.......only kidding, nice to see your icon is working.

This was the answer I got today (8/1) when I asked member services the same question.

"Not to brush off your question but there are a lot of rules governing transferring points. The Use Years of both parties have to the compatible; banked and borrowed points cannot be transferred; transferred in points retain the Use Year and the Home Resort Priority of the person who transferred them in;
and transfers can only be done once each year - either in or out. Both parties must be in good status, meaning dues and loan payments are current and the person transferring the points out must be the one to call Member Services to make the transaction."

Hope this helps!

I knew there were a few levels to this question.
It may be better for him to make a ressie in my name and then link any ressie I make to that one, if necessary.

Actually, DVC Grandpa's response muddys the water further.

I believe he spoke to an un-informed CM. Those were the original rules. The rules have changed, exactly what the change is, is where the question lies.
