Transfer of points questions

I have just spent the better part of 3hrs researching the subject of renting and transferring points. There a just a couple of points (no pun intended ) I wanted to clarify. Some of the posts were a little dated and I just wanted to be sure I'm getting current info.

Here goes:

1. Do you have to have the same UY as the person giving you the transfer?

2. If someone doesn't want to use paypal, is there a reasonable method to get payment to the transferer from the transferee prior to the actual transfer? (does this even make sense )

3. Can you transfer points from the current UY that have not become available yet? (ie. Oct08 points for transfer at this time- May08)
Or do you have to wait until after Oct08 to do the actual transfer of points?

4. The one transfer per year rule, is it 365 days from the date of the transfer, or is it once per UY? ie. if my UY is June, can I do another transfer after June has passed?

No.

Just to make sure you know, DVC specifically prohibits members from receiving compensation for engaging in any transferring of vacation points. (See page 11 of your 2008-2009 Vacation Planner). Terms of payment are completely negotiable. I suppose you could send/accept a personal check and wait for it to clear if you are not in a hurry. I have no other ideas for you except do NOT agree to do anything via Western Union or the like. (We've had a case or two of fraud reported here that involve wire transfers). I probably wouldn't do a point transfer if I didn't think I could trust the other party.

You don't have to wait for the use year month to do a transfer.

It's one per use year. If you transfer (or accept a transfer of) 2007 use year points, you can still transfer out (or accept) 2008 use year points. AFAIK, there is no requirement to wait a certain length of time between two transfers as long as they are for different use year points.

I had read about the case involving Western Union and subsequently won't be using this as a form of payment.

I was not aware of the UY in relation to the transfer. So, as I understand, I can transfer in or out points from a specific UY, say 08. If I wanted to do another transfer, it would have to involve a different UYs points, ie. 09 points. The amount of time that passes is not relevant, it's the UY of the points involved. I will be sure to contact MS to confirm my assumption.

While it would be nice to arrange a transfer from someone I know and trust, I don't have that option. So I think I have done my homework, with the help of the archived threads on this board. Everything checks out ok so far. I will be wary of warning signs, but I believe this is an experienced member with a good history . I know I wouldn't be willing to trade out points of my own without payment in advance, so I need to be prepared to do the same if I'm on the receiving end of the transfer.

you can bank points that are transferred but you can not transferr banked points. This may help your use year in arranging trip to get points in correct use year.
Read your rule book or call memeber services to clarify

I understand that banked points cannot be transferred. I have a Jun UY so I will be getting the 2008 points in June and those points can be transferred at that time.

Can I transfer 2009 Jun UY points at that time as well or are they considered borrowed points which I do not think can be transferred?
