Transfer 101 and a scenario question

So I am only just learning about the transfer option. I met a gal in line at DLR and she owns at VGC, myself at Aulani, and we talked about "trading" XMas/NYE. (Hell Week : ) 2018 at 11 mos. My understanding is that a transfer would be ideal here and since VGC costs more points she could then book what room she wants etc and then no worries. To clarify, upon transfer, I could book VGC directly at 11 mos myself?

What is really the likelihood that I could paste together a transfer large enough for 3 two bedrooms at BCV during the 3rd week of October at 11 mos? If you can only transfer out once, how many times can you transfer in? I would be looking to trade with Aulani and/or VGF points. The other option would be 3 two beds at VGF that week which would be awesome but is futher from F & W. Doing a large family trip brimming with Millenials.

Thanks in advance oh wise ones!!! Lost without you.

You may only do 1 transfer either in or out but not both in a UY so it doesn't work if you are looking to trade points with another owner unless you're looking at transferring different UY's - ie you would transfer 2016 points to them and they would transfer 2017 points to you. Or you 2017 points and them 2018 points etc.

If you did get a VGC point transfer you would then have the 11 month booking window with those points but would need to call as they aren't visible online unless you own the exact same resort and UY as the transferred points.

So sometimes it's just easier to do a rental unless you find the perfect scenario. You'd just have to keep an eye out for someone looking to transfer the number of BCV points you needed. Or with the VGC owner just think about renting from each other if the transfer can't work.

Ahhhh! Ok. Forgive me, so if I have 2 contracts with 2 UY then I can transfer once to each? I may just use VGF contract to book the October trip but I could maybe do to the VGC/ Aulani swap by using the different contracts?
Sorry, this is like higher math to me! I can't compute some of the things I read on here with waitlist and UY, holding, one time extra points, walking, stalking... hahaha

FWIW, if you are willing to use your VGF points for the BCV trip, my advice to you is to rent your VGF points and use the proceeds to rent what you need at BCV. VGF points should command a higher price per point than most every other WDW DVC resort. The resort is small and very few owners are willing to rent those points during the home resort priority period. Based on what I see on the rental board, private owners have been getting $17 pp and higher. for VGF. BCV owners renting privately will usually let them go for less than that, especially if you are taking a larger number of points.

If you don't want to do the work yourself, have a chat with one of the brokers (www.dvcrequest.com is one of our sponsors and highly recommended by almost everyone). You would end up paying about $3 pp out of pocket to get everything done, but it might be worth it to you.

If you had been talking about 12/31/2017, you would be too late. BCV & Aulani are already completely booked (all villa sizes) for NYE 2017. Believe NYE was booked shortly after the 11 month window opened, so it's good you are thinking about 2018 now. Good luck!

If you have 2 contracts with different UYs, you could transfer into one and out of the other. Or you could transfer once into each of them, but then you would not be able to transfer out of either. In order to do the VGC/Aulani swap, you would need to transfer the Aulani points out to the VGC owner and then transfer their VGC points into another contract (your VGF contract?).

Yes, with the 2UY's then you could make the VGC/Aulani swap happen by transferring out of the one contract and transferring in to the other contract.

VGF for BCV is going to be virtually impossible for October. Weeks then will often have holes in the availability if there's any at all and you are looking for 3 rooms. If you don't do the other swap of VGC/Aulani I'd recommend looking for a BCV points transfer large enough for the 3 2BR's or else to rent those reservations from a BCV owner. Or just plan on VGF for that stay.

Good idea, I hadn't thought to rent myself so it's good to know that VGF is going for a good rate. I was thinking more along the lines of an agency in which case it would cost me a couple thousand dollars to exchange VGF points for BCV points which sounded painful.

Aulani at NYE- the birds can have it- DLR too if you value any personal space when you walk through the park BUT it would allow us to dabble in the parks and go to the Rose Parade in one swoop. Gotta try!

Based on this, I think I will save the transfer "credits" and swap a reservation with her which I feel fairly comfortable about trying. Famous last word, right?!

You're right. Hmmm. Well, there's still a little time, it wont hurt to see if there is an owner out there who wants ot trade 1k BCV points for 1k VGF points ahead of the 11 mo mark. : O. Otherwise, yes, just book VGF and be grateful we get to treat our loved ones to a "Grand" time. TBH, I think even SSR would be a great fit for all the young adults. If they had had a refresh recentlyish I would happily go there and even if that ends up being the case for one reason or another, that will be fine. Less points anyway!

That's what my cousin and I did for the 2016 NYE - best trip ever! Not much sleep though before the Rose Parade! Spent about 45 minutes just exiting DL after the 9pm early fireworks that included a lot of shuffling with all our new best friends as we moved along.

So much magic! The Rose Parade makes my heart flutter.
