Today I saw on the new aoubt a seasick patch you can get that is effective for up to three days at a time. It is available by prescription only, and was called transderm scop (sp?)

thought this might help some of you who are sea sick...

My adult DD and I both had our drs. prescribe the patch for our 1st disney cruise. It was the 4 nite one and we slept through almost the entire thing! We had my DGr.D with us and she was 9 at the time. Thank goodness her mother had signed to give her permission to go in and out of the kids club as she wished because otherwise she'd have spent 4 days watching us sleep, fully dress sitting on the sofa! LOL! We laugh about it now, but it really wasn't funny at the time. Neither of us remember much until the last day. Also it effected my eye sight and I was so sensitive to light that I had to wear sunglasses day and night and my eyelids felt like they were lined with sandpaper. I guess my point is, try one at home to see how sensitive you are to the patch and watch your eyes. They say right on the RX to not touch your eyes after handling a patch and I am quite sure I was very careful to wash my hands and even then avoid touching the area around my eyes for awhile and it was still a problem. We both take bonine now about 1 1/2 hrs. before boarding the ship and then one every a.m. We have been on 7 day and had no problems with bonine or with sea sickness.

We used the patch on our Norwegian Norway cruise and I was sicker with using it than I would have been had I just become sea sick! It dialated my pupils to the point in all the pictures of me my eyes are black with my pupils instead of blue with my iris! THe patch gave me a really bad headache, I was dizzy, nauseated and very tired! I didnt drink ANY alcohol on that cruise and by the 2nd day I thought I was going to die! I was very light sensitive and became a little disoriented! My husband (boyfriend at the time) was the same way! He got really sick on it as well! We thought maybe because we had touched the patch when we scratched an itch that we didnt get our hands washed and accidentally touched our eyes but after a trip to the Norway doctor he confirmed that we were both allergic to it. As we were heading out of his office with a fresh prescription of Meclizine there were 8 others sitting there with the same problems (none of which were related to either of us) so I would caution you with the patch! It uses scopalamine which reduces the action of the nerves behind the ear. A huge side effect we noticed was dry mouth! We were always dying for a drink of water! Another side effect is you should NOT drink alcohol with it at all! You also have to make sure that you wash your hands immediately with soap and water (hot water preferably) if your fingers or hands come in contact with the patch! If you really want to try the patch my suggestion would be to try it at home first before you go so that you KNOW how it will affect you! I wish I had tried it out before I went on that cruise so I would know that I was allergic to it and wouldnt have spent the first 4 days of my 7 day cruise sick as a dog in bed!
Just be careful and make sure you talk with your doctor about it as it can have some VERY NASTY side effects for some people!

I use the patch, but cut it in half. I still get the benefits without all of the side effects, most notable, dry mouth.
I do have a few drinks with it too.

Used the patch on 3 cruises and guess I am fortunate not to have had any problems. This cruise I tried the SeaBands. They worked great!!! A lot less expensive; and reuseable too........
Got them at Walgreen's.

I've used them for both cruises and airplane flights. I would definitely agree you should try one before you go. When I've gotten a prescription for them, my doctor usually prescribes 3 which last 3 days each. The only side effect I have found is maybe slight drowsiness but nothing I seem to notice too strongly unless I sit down and take a breather

Good Luck! I have a very sensitive stomache and with the patch and sea bands, I have no problem :)
