Tranferring points to a different Membership with a different UY

I came across this on the PlanDisney site:

Here are a few things you'll want to keep in mind when it comes to making a Vacation Points Transfer. You may only transfer or receive Vacation Points once per Use Year. This means that if you transfer Points to a friend and they plan on transferring Points back to you in the future, they will need to wait until the next Use Year to transfer Points back to your account. Transferred Vacation Points also can't be used for Home Resort Priority reservations –– they can only be used to book reservations in the 7-month booking window. And finally, at this time, transferred Vacation Points are not displayed in the Vacation Points overview on your Member Dashboard. However, these Points are available in the online booking system, so you'll be able to book and modify reservations online. If you have any questions, your best bet is to reach out to Member Services for more details.

I didn't know this. I thought transferred points maintain same UY and booking priority when transferred between two memberships owned by the same people.

So for example - if I take my Copper Creek points from my December UY and transfer them to my February UY, I can't book CCV at 11 months with those CCV points in my February UY?

Transferred points retain both their original resort identity and use year, and that is true regardless of whether the transfer is between two different members or is one between two memberships owned by the same member. They can be used 11-months out for the resort they belong to. If you were to transfer your CCV Dec use year points to your CCV Feb use year, they could be used together to make a reservation at 11-months out. Thus, the third sentence in that PlanDisney statement is wrong.

Also note that as to transfers by a single member from one of his memberships (use years) to another membership (different use year) that he owns, DVC allows multiple transfers per use year.

Moreover, you can actually do two transfers the same day even under the single transfer rule, because, at any given point in time, you are allowed to transfer points from the use year you are currently in and the next use year, which actually makes the second sentence of that PlanDisney statement also wrong, since the friend could transfer his next use year points back to you, i.e., that friend does not have to wait until his next use year starts to do the transfer.

My understanding is the same as yours. I suspect that third sentence should have been:

Transferred Vacation Points also can't be used to make online Home Resort Priority reservations –– they can only be used online to book reservations in the 7-month booking window.

A helpful clarification would have added: Call Member Services if you wish to use transferred points to make a home resort reservation. Transferred points retain their home resort and use year designations.

Yea they worded it poorly and is open to interpretation as to what they meant. My take is their intent was assuming the points being transferred in has a different home resort priority than the recipient's points.

Keep in mind that PlanDisney is notorious for giving incorrect information.
Yes, incorrect information may be provided at times because of how PlanDisney works. Though it has Disney personnel overseeing the site, the panelists who make posts are usually repeat visitors to Disney Parks and resorts and, for DVC matters, some members.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I also have two Use Years/Memberships and am a little confused. We have all our contracts on one Membership and our VGC on the other since normally we will not use those points anywhere except at that resort. When we bought the VGC contract there were 22 banked points that need to be used before August 31, 2024 and we won't be heading there until December 2024. Do I need to transfer those points to my other membership to use them somewhere else at the 7-month mark? I tried to make a mock reservation to try it out and the website brings up all of my other contracts that I can pick the points from, but not that one. Or am I doing something wrong on the website?

You cannot transfer banked points.
If you transfer points they can later be banked by the receiver, but banked points cannot.
Sorry, you have to book using the VGC membership, potentially losing some spare points. You could transfer some current UY points from the bigger membership to the VGC one to complete a booking, though.

While banked points are normally not allowed to be transferred, a CM did transfer 5 for me last year since I was an owner of both memberships.

I’d at least give them a call to see if they will make an exception since you would be transfers g between yourself.

I'm not quite sure why I have to transfer them to my other membership in the first place. We are going to Disney World in May 2024. Shouldn't I just be able to use them? Why do they have to be transferred to my other membership?

Edit to add: I think I have it. I was trying to use the quick planning tool to book a fake date and it would only bring up the contracts in my main membership. When I just tried on the page "Start Your Search", it let me change memberships and now I am able to use those points.

Thanks for your help, zavandor and Sandi! I appreciate the help!
