Hi! I am thinking of buying a trampoline this year for my ds's Christmas gift. If you have one for your kids, what do you recommend? Where did you buy it? How much was it?? Any other advice? TIA! :thumbsup2

Just make sure you get one with a net around it. Also, remember that you are responsible if any neighbor gets hurt on it.

Check with your insurance agent. I know of a few people who had issues with their insurance company when homeowners found out they had a trampoline. It is a big liability.

Oh don't do it. My neice broke bother her arms on a trampoline. No, she didn't fall off, she did it ON the trampoline.

No recommendations for brand or type. I just know that I have witnessed a trampoline flipping end over end through our backyard more than once and we are not in an area known for high winds. When you set it up, get many stakes to anchor it down. The trampolines that went through our neighborhood WERE anchored, but the wind snapped them and they barely missed my backdoor neighbor's house both times. We have only lived here for 2 1/2 years. Good luck! They can be a lot of fun!

We've had ours for about 5 years. Yes, we have the net around it. That is a must. I have seen my chidren fall into the net when jumping! Thank goodness for the net! They dont use it like they did when we first got it. I guess the "new" wore off! Good Luck!! Have Fun!!:thumbsup2

It has been at least five years, but my nieces got one from Sam's Club. The trampoline is my kids' favorite part of their gymnastics class. The gym has a big X in the middle, and the kids are supposed to stay on the X (or at least right around it!) I've never seen anyone fall off it, but of course, the teacher is right there.

We bought our trampoline from Wal-Mart with the enclosure for $218 with tax. We bought it when our DD turned 2 and she has loved it. If you have small children, don't let the big kids jump with them.

Yeah, we had one from Sam's club, and we also had the net around it. Insurance-wise, we were fine, I'd just make sure that you know your kids' friends' parents really well before you allow their children on it.

We bought the 14' with enclosure last year at Wal-Mart for around $300. Great so far!

As was said above, please advise your homeowner's insurance company/agent FIRST.

Many companies will either not insure you if you have a trampoline, or specifically exclude ANY liability related to the trampoline and its use.

You may find it's not worth the fun the kids might have!

I know you have gotten a few posts warning about injuries but, I need to give you one more. :flower3:

One of my son's best friends broke two vertebrae in his neck last month.:guilty: He was in the hospital for 2 weeks. Has been in a halo since and cannot return to school until after the Xmas break. He is 11 years old. He did not fall off. He wasn't goofing off. He jumped, lost his balance and as he was coming down, fell head first into the padded pole that holds the safety netting in place. Yes, the pole and netting that is supposed to prevent injuries actually broke his neck. It was a totally freak accident but, a terrible one. They took the trampoline down the day after the child came home and tossed it.

My son broke his ankle on my neighbor's when he was 2. He just landed the wrong way and broke the growth plate. He spent 6 weeks in a cast.

Accidents and kids can happen anywhere of course, but they can be more often and severe with a trampoline.

Sorry to be a damper. This is just a really tough situation we have first hand experience with.

I was going to say the same thing. Our insurance company WILL drop us if we have a trampoline. Check to see if your rates will go up to determine the true cost of owning one.

Other than that, my advise would be not to get one. We know lots of people who have been injured, and not from falling off, just from landing wrong.

We (my wife made me) bought one of those huge (rental size) bounce arounds at Sam's Club about 3-4 years ago for about $300. It has stakes to keep it in place and and industrial size blower, netting, basketball hops. We use it for the kid's B-day parties and even lend it out to the family.

We bought a 12' with enclosure from Toys R Us earlier this summer. It is killing my grass as we speak. The kids very rarely play on it. They are more into ridding their bikes.

If I had it to do over, I would have spent the cash on something else.... like a Disney World deposit, or something. :woohoo:

A friend of mine landed after everyone else and shattered her ankle. Her ortho said it was like landing feet first on cement after jumping out of a four story window. Her parents made her sue the owner (I didn't even know a child could sue someone), I guess because they didn't have medical insurance at the time and she had to have several surgeries.

We are anti-trampoline since our next door neighbor's trampoline hit our house twice. The first time, we just got a little mark in the second floor of the house. The second time, we had a whole punched in the side of our house from the leg of the trampoline which was torn apart in the wind. It was not a tornado, just a typical midwestern summer thunderstorm. The hole was inches from the window in my then infant son's bedroom. Just my thoughts, which are based on our own experience.

I shudder over the very thought of trampolines. My oldest went to a neighbors house, back when he was 9. He and his buddy were on one of those huge ones in the backyard. DS was coming down and his friend was coming up and hit DS right under the jaw...his teeth went right through his tongue. Folks...if you ever had to get stitches, this is like the last place you want them-no less to watch your kid get them there. DS nearly bit his tongue right in half-it was hanging by a thread. It was a blood bath and thankfully DH was home to keep it together, because when your 9 year old comes in covered in blood and his tongue hanging out and by a thread (sorry to be graphic), you kinda lose it as a mother. I haven't let any of my kids even THINK of going near a trampoline since then. If you must get one, please exercise extreme caution-even then accidents are very high on these things. I could have sued the neighbor, but we are not the type. Our medical covered son minus a $50 ER copay, but it was a highly traumatic thing for everyone.

My dd10 does gymnastics and loves doing the trampoline there but I have refused to let her have one for the yard. I am so afraid she or someone else would get hurt. Our neighbors moved a couple years ago and offered us their old one for free. We turned it down.
