Anyone do these types of challenges? I never have.

What sort of training do you do to prepare?

Lots of upper body and stuff you don't normally do. Went into warrior dash last year after PRing at a half thinking this will be cake. Two weeks latter I still hurt so bad it ruined my run at a triathlon.

As far as obstacle course races go, Warrior Dash is pretty easy (as compared to Tough Mudder/Spartan Race). If you can run a 5K and have reasonable upper body strength (ability to do a few push-ups, etc..), you will be fine.

I was going to post a similar thread! :goodvibes I was looking at the Tough Mudder website this past week and they had a training schedule and different ways to train for their obstacles, not so much the running ascpect. You could just adapt the training down a little bit for a shorter distance race.

Have you done a Tough Mudder before? If you did, how'd it go?

Yes, we did the Tough Mudder Indiana last June...it was challenging but also fun! I feel the TM is more about mental challenges (Arctic Enema, Electroshock therapy) than physical. Yes, some of the obstacles were physically difficult, especially the 12 foot walls, but there are plenty of people there to help you! TM is more of an experience/team building exercise than a race! Definitely recommend it as a one time thing/challenge. Let me know of you have any questions!

Thanks! I'll definitely take you up on that. I don't know what it is, but something about that race is calling me, maybe it's like you said - the combo of the mental as well as the physical.

Kim We have a group from work participating in the one in Portland this June. It will be intresting to see the teamwork as sometimes that is lacking at work.

I am going to look into an easier one to start. I need a little spice in between the half marathons I do. Plus a motivator to work on upper body. I am not weak in the upper body but not at the level I would like to be...I haven't worked with weights in a while.
Dig out the power 90x.

I did a local 4 mile obstacle race last year. It was so much fun and gave me the (expensive) racing bug. I did it after finishing P90X, but fell off the monkey bars. I recommend working on grip strength. ;)

I'm doing Tough Mudder in July. Not sure why I let myself get talked into it, but the money is paid and training commenced. :lmao:
