I am planning a week long trip to Disney this summer with DS7. Looking at prices it seems like it would be about the same amount of money to fly back or to get a "roomette" and come back on the train (not the Autotrain since I wouldn't be bringing a car).

I'm thinking that the train would seem like an adventure to my son -- we've taken the train to New York and he's enjoyed that, but it can't compare to a train with bunk beds and a dining car!!! But I'm wondering if anyone else has done it and what their thoughts are?

Also, how much does it cost to get from the Swan (where we'll be staying) to the train station? I'm hoping it's about the same cost as the airport. Does anyone know?

If he's at all interested in trains, it would probably be a lot of fun. I have great memories of a cross country train trip at about that age.

I believe you want the nicer and closer train station in Kissimmee rather than the Orlando station. It should be fairly close to the Swan - easy cab ride.

I took my DD on the train from Milwaukee to Pittsburgh when she was your Son's age and she loved it. It was about 14 hrs I guess and we did not have a sleeper. She really liked walking around, going to the observation car (large windows), and the snack car. We walked around, ate, watched part of a movie in the car where they were showing it, looked at the scenery, etc, and then went to sleep.
She keeps saying she wants to do that again several years later.
