Hello all! I have never posted on this board before, but have a bit of a problem and thought I may get some answers here.

My husband, my 2 children and I are going to Ireland on Sunday. We had planned to rent a car and see the sights. Unfortunately, dh just found out he has to go to Afghanistan and he leaves tomorrow! I am not comfortable with driving in Ireland, so that's out. Has anyone here done travel there using trains and buses only? I'm worried about being able to really 'see' Ireland on a train or bus.

Normally, I'd have this all figured out but this deployment fell in his lap a few hours ago. Our tickets are RyanAir, so cancelling those is out.

Thanks!

Where are you flying into and where do you want to visit.

The trains are fairly reliable as are coach services to most of the major cities / towns but bus services within some of the towns are more or less non existent

This site might be helpful and so might this one

We were at dublin and the transport system to and from airport is easypeasy lem qsueezy, and there are bus trips to most places, however we were in rural ireland a few years ago and that was a diff matter!

Thank you. I hadn't seen that first site.
We're flying in and out of Dublin, but had planned on going to a cute B&B in Killarney, which it seems is a long train trip filled with many changes (not so great with kids).
