Trails End with multiple allergies?

Looking at the menus, my dad really wants to eat at Trails End for dinner. He loves ribs, chicken, corn bread....all of it. My mom agrees that it sounds good....so do I. So I made a reservation for our first night there.

I was wondering if anyone has any recent experience there with multiple food allergies. I am a little concerned since the buffet is much smaller than most, that seems like it would mean there is a lot less for the chefs to work with.

My allergies are: peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, shellfish, fish, wheat, soy, dairy, coconut, oats, sesame, honey, sunflower seeds, broccoli, bananas, cherries, avocado, and ginger. I also have to avoid all raw fruits and vegetables because of oral allergy syndrome but I can eat them cooked.

I would be perfectly fine if all I can get is chicken tenders and fries (I'm pretty easy to please) but if anyone has experience getting something more elaborate than that I would love to hear about it.

But this meal is for my parents so as long as they enjoy it, it's all good.

Latest word is that Chef TJ is moving to Trails End for the lunch/dinner shift. There's another chef at TE that's also great with allergies. Send an email to special diets and see if there's something they can work up for you. Good luck! :goodvibes

I have hear Chef TJ who is suppose to be at TE is amazing! I would send special diets an email, note your allergies in your ADR's and I think you have a good chance of getting something good! The worst that could happen is you'll have to grab tenders somewhere else if it doesn't work out, right?

I have not personally eaten at TE, but I have eaten at Hoop Dee Doo Revue twice with multiple allergies (many that you've mentioned). Chef Michael from HDDR is awesome and also just moved to TE which has similar foods. He made ribs with no rub on them, dairy free mashed potatoes, safe cornbread and several other things on our last two trips. There's of course no guarantee, but I would imagine that if you ask special diets to get you in contact with the chefs, they will be able to come up with a decent meal for you.

I totally understand planning for meals that others in your party want yet hoping you can eat safely there, too. I want my family to all have what they think looks good and they want me to be able to dine with them or they will choose to just skip that restaurant. It's great to research all you can and be sure it'll accommodate you all in some way.

Best of luck with your plans!

Thank you. I've had some pretty awesome meals at all the other places we've eaten so I know they will be able to do something I was just curious with what others have experienced there. I'm really excited because we've never been to the campgrounds so I'm looking forward to walking around and exploring the resort.

And thank you Random Ninja as well. Last I had hear about Chef TJ he was going to morning at TE but if he's at dinner, that would be awesome.

Yeah it's hard to juggle planning meals for everyone with food allergies. But that's what I love about Disney. There is always something I can eat no matter where we go. It's usually really easy to make everyone happy with meals. And if it ends up not being good or not wt we hoped, we adjust to that, finish the meal (or just pay ) and leave and go find something else if still hungry. If there's one thing food allergies have taught me is to be flexible and always have enough snacks to feed an army!!

DisFan07 - I'm going to TE with a list of foods I can't eat as long as your arm.... sometimes I'm lucky if I can manage boiled chicken & plain white rice.... But, like yours, my Crazy Family actually LOVES to spend time together & LOVES to see me eat anything, esp. at a restaurant..... I just sent Special Diets a note, telling them that I had multiple allergies (gluten, dairy, eggs, peanuts, bananas, kiwis & now FODMAPS, which is a list in itself) and asked the to have a Chef call me so we could be go over stuff & not leave them scrambling during a busy time. I have done this many times & Special Diets & all the Chefs I've spoken with have been great. But anywhere Chef TJ is, is bound to be good, even if he's not on that meal - he seems to do alot of education where ever he works.

OP, if you remember after please tell us how it went. I've been wanting to go over there because I see a lot of great twitter pics from there... but am not going to bother if my family can't all go. We tend to like being together on vacation too.

My husband was recently diagnosed with similar allergies to Leota's (his aren't life threatening just more of an inconvenience but he still needs to be careful) so I've been reading all of the "allergy" threads lately.

I sometimes notice too and even recognize which people's reviews I care about more because their sets are similar to my son.

We've eaten at Trail's End twice recently.
Both times it was not very busy. The second time we were there at the time it opened for supper and the chef had actually come out to the buffet to see how people were liking a particular dish that they had made some small tweeks to.

We have traveled with people with food allergies and found the chefs were great whenever we went. We did not have anyone with allergies with us at Trail's End, but it seemed like chefs would possibly be even more accessible than at busier or larger buffets.

We didn't eat at Trail's End, but we ate at the Hoop Dee Doo, and the food is similar to what your group likes :)
We only had gluten and dairy to avoid, so not the same list as you, but we had plenty to eat. You can see photos here if you scroll down a bit (of the food)
They had ribs, beans, simple salad, sorbet. They were not able to do anything extra or in place of items we couldn't eat here, but I would think they would have more freedom for that at Trail's End (without the show in progress to contend with).
Post back after you go!

We just ate at TE dinner buffet during the last week of July. Chef TJ was indeed there for dinner service and he is awesome:thumbsup2 My DD13 is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, bananas, and soy protein. There were several safe dishes on the buffet for her to eat. Chef TJ offerred to make something special for her if needed and to make her plate from the kitchen. Also said he would make her a special dessert as nothing on the buffet was safe for her.

Near the end of her meal, she became emotional, as she sometimes does, because she felt sad not being able to eat foods like other people without food allergies. Chef TJ came right over to the table worried something was wrong. My DH just explained DD was feeling sad. He asked if she was ready for dessert. DD said yes. A few minutes later, he brought out this beautiful dessert tower made with chocolate allergy safe cookies, toasted marshmallows, berries, ice cream and chocolate syrup. She was in heaven and felt so special. Took her from crying to a huge smile. She normally only eats a little for dessert but this evening she ate almost the whole thing. Could not believe all of that fit into her tiny body!!

Chef TJ rocks :cool1:
