Trails End reviews??

I am thinking about going to Trail's end for dinner one night and then on over to the campfire sing along with Chip and Dale and the movie. Has anyone eaten here before, should we do this or just show up for the campfire singalong. My cast consist of me, DH, DD 9, DS 3, none are real picky eaters and we love peel & eat shrimp.

We love trail's end dinner, it's a good value for the price. Of course, it's always subject to change, but they did have basic things--like individual salad items--a lot of buffets have premixed salads on their salad bar, but they had baby carrots, sliced cukes--things my son would actually eat! Good, plain mashed potatoes and chicken(fried)...once when I was there they had plain white rice and the other time it was a seasoned rice. Simple green beans...I really liked it. I'm sure you could always speak to the chef too if you have a picky eater--they do a pasta dish, you could always ask for some plain noodles or whatever...but I see you don't have picky eaters...the desserts were not super-impressive, but I'm usually too full anyway!
There is a petting zoo there, you can take a "hayride", watch Wishes from the beach, haven't done the Campfire, but it is def. on my list!

thumbs down from me. It is probably the most difficult restaurant to get to. It takes forever. and for what, mediocre food. I was with someone who had previously raved about the place (something about chicken & biscuits) which was no longer on the menu

We're staying at the Contemporary Resort during Thanksgiving week and decided to eat at Trail's End for TG dinner. We can easily take the boat from CR without having to worry about bus transfers. We also just wanted simple, hearty food. I worked at Trail's End years ago and have fond memories there. The food is prepared in the same kitchen as the Hoop De Doo dinner show meals (ribs, fried chicken, and wonderful homemade bread). If you're staying at a MK resort or plan to go straight from MK, I wouldn't cross it off your list completely.

We ate there once last Sep.

DH and DD10 loved it. I thought it was ok, but had no desire to return.

The buffet has a very limited selection of food.

The ribs were fatty and I couldn't eat them.

I found very little food to satisfy me, and what I found was only acceptable at best.

I would go to Ponderosa or Golden Corral before TE!

Just didn't really work for me.

Oh, and getting there is really slow regardless of which option you choose.

All that being said, we are going there our first night this Sep because DH and DD loved it so much. Yuck!

We ate there a few days ago, DD6 and DH loved it. DH said the salmon, chicken and beef were delicious and DD6 enjoyed the beef and chilli. They also said the icecream were creamy and the best. They enjoyed the food there much more than Ohana's. To me I think the selection is limited. We stayed at WL, so getting there was easy. We didn't go to the campfire.

Haven't been there yet but we are also planning to go here for Thanksgiving. I am not worried about it being hard to get to because that's a non-park day for us anyway and I just want to enjoy the scenery. We are planning to do a hayride after dinner.

Same here...we're going to take our time getting there and enjoy the boat ride.

Have eaten here several times - breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Food is fresh and plentiful. Buffet is not as extensive others but certainly enough choices to fill up on.

We stay at the Fort in a cabin so we always eat there once or twice. I think the food is about like any homestyle buffet. It's fresh & tasty but not gourmet. If you want fancy, don't go there but if you want a homestyle meal, go for it.

We really enjoy the trails end. It is especially great for little kids with the theming and the country cookin menu items. (BTW, the peel n' eat shrimp are on the salad bar but only at dinner time).

It is the exact same food that is served at Hoop Dee Doo Review next door, with the exception of HDDR has their own salad dressing and strawberry shortcake.

The last time that we were there, the manager came over and asked how things were. When he found out that my friend had never been there before, he sent the waitress next door to get him a special order of the HDDR shortcake as a little "thank you for joining us here'. Then they talked about herbie the love bug movies for half an hour.
My friend wrote to Disney to tell them how great the guy was, in a few weeks, my friend got an email from the manager thanking him and they caught right back up on their 'herbie' discussion.
I just love the Fort Wilderness area and I really recommend taking a boat over there. If you are riding the boat back after dinner in the evening, you can even catch the MK fireworks from the boat!

We just came back and it was a good buffet but a little limited. If you like fried chicken, ribs, mashed potatoes that kind of thing you would be happy with it. Luckily my somewhat picky husband did like it since he likes ribs. We stayed at CR so it was an easy boat ride over.
