Trail's End for first night or another restaurant?

We were originally considering doing O'hana, but the menu didn't appeal to us very much so we are now considering trying something else. We were thinking about Trail's End. Is this place better for breakfast or dinner? Is it worth the trip over there? We were thinking about trying to go to the camp fire (although we're going in Jan.--do they have a camp fire then?).

Any other suggestions for a first night, relaxing dinner? We don't plan to go to a park.

Trail's end is a nice place. It used to be a steal for lunch and dinner, but the prices have come up quite a bit in recent years.

Where are you staying?? Just thinking about the logistics-- even with a car, Trail's End can be kind of a pain to get to. (Especially considering you can't park anywhere near the place). If the MK closes early (as it usually does in January) it can be a real haul to get home after your meal....

If you were open to other places, I really like Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge if you were in search of a buffet.

yes they do have the sing along campfire in Jan
trail's end was about 11 for brft and lunch and around 18 for dinner last i knew, most other buffets about 7-8 more fo dinner. we like it and always go for at least one meal. imo it's one of the best deals in town. you can take a boat from mk or the contemp., a bus from any other park. don't know where you are staying

If you're staying in a location convenient to FW then Trail's End would be fine. I think it's okay, not great, but then it's also less expensive than other Disney buffets. There's also a wagon ride each evening that departs from in front of Pioneer Hall, but I can't remember the times...I'm thinking maybe 7:00 and 9:30, but I'm not positive.

If you're not staying nearby FW is a bit of a pain to get to. In that case maybe Downtown Disney might work for you.

We are excited about Trails End. We are planning to go to MK our first day (in two weeks!!! :cool1: ) and take the boat over for an early dinner, then back for the fireworks. A friend of mine does this and said it worked really well. All I know is that this all happens in ONLY TWO WEEKS and that makes me happy!!!!

We love going to the Trails End. It's a hidden gem. We usually go there for lunch on a visit to the Magic Kingdom. It's a very relaxing boat ride fro the Kingdom. Wish I was there now.

Thanks for the feedback! We are staying at All Star Movies so anywhere is a bit of a drive, but there may be closer places we could try. We were thinking of trying Boma for breakfast. Is the dinner better? Maybe will try Trails End on a day we are at the MK and just take the boat.

Boma's breakfast is very good, but it's basically a standard breakfast buffet with a few unusual items thrown in. Dinner is more exotic fare. My family isn't adventurous, so it's breakfast for us. If you're driving, you'll be pretty close to AKL though, so it would be convenient. Downtown Disney is pretty easy to get to as well, if there's anything there that interests you. The Epcot resorts aren't far either, lots of choices there. It's not that FW is all that far away, but driving there is a bit of a pain. You'd have to park at the gates and take the internal bus to Pioneer Hall. It's convenient to the MK though, so if you went from there you could just boat over. You could also take the bus to MK and boat to FW from there if you wanted.

I have Trail's End for a Thanksgiving dinner.

thanks for the info about the boat ride from MK.

Does anyone know how often those boats depart from MK and how long the boat ride takes?

they are like buses, fill up ,take off and come back, the trip is maybe 10 mins or so so boat would come every 20 mins or so at the latest( they may run 2 sometimes, we alway go off season and last time not at park closing so i think it is usually just one at those times at least)

you can also get the boat fromthe WL( same boat stops there) and another boat goes from the contemporary

usually we take the boat but from what i remember the park buses take you straight to pioneer hall/trail's end area, it's only if you drive to fw that you need to take the internal bus( or if you are staying at fw :) )

Thank you! Your extra info about the resort busses taking people straight to Pioneer Hall was welcome too. I was thinking we would need to do the internal bus route, but I am glad to hear that is not the case.

A boat ride, if we haven't taken a ride on one by then, would probably be pretty cool for my kids.
