NEW ORLEANS – A 16-year-old boy driving his parents and siblings on a "dream trip" to Disney World apparently fell asleep at the wheel, causing the sport utility vehicle to veer off the highway and roll over, killing three children and two adults, authorities said Thursday.

What a tragedy! The kids who survived (especially the driver) are going to have a hard time of it! :(

Sayhello

Oh, this is horrible. That poor family. The survivors are going to have to find a way to go on living after this. If this tragedy makes someone remember to buckle up before every single car trip, maybe this tragedy won't be in vain.

Seatbelts usage and not using your mobile phones (text and calls) are mandatory regulations in the UK and other countries.
It is such a harsh lesson for the surviving passengers. Thoughts go out to everyone affected :)

Both things will get you tickets in California too. I have to say I was surprised that there is anyone in the US who wouldn't put on a seat belt these days. I don't know anyone who doesn't wear one. This whole thing makes me sick just thinking about it and I pray for that family. :worried:

'Not' just wearing seat belts, but please driving straight through for hours to save time and/or a hotel can be very deadly! I hear of so many families doing this to get to/from Disney. You DO NOT realize how sleepy you are at times when you are so tired - one minute you are awake, the next zonked out - no warning! Please be careful! :goodvibes

I agree. We drive every year 17 hours, and have been tempted many times to drive straight though, but we also have asked ourselves if it's worth saving the $100 on the hotel, and after reading this, no, never.

I feel like letting a 16 year old (who probably has not had his licence very long) drive at night while everyone else is probably asleep is a really stupid decision. :confused3

And now that poor kid is going to have to live with this for the rest of his life. What a horrible thing to have to go through.
