traffic problems in kissimmee

okay never had this happen to me before.

at a red light (one of those arrows) - and the guy behind me starts honking.

the last time looked a red light is a red light (this was a left turn)


anyway this happened several times. has florida changed it laws and you can turn left on a light for that turn???? if so AAA does not know it. (this was a two way street)

Some states have left on red (after stopping) from a one way street to another one way street.

I can't imagine legal left on red if the streets involved were two way streets. Maybe you just had a jerk nearby!

don't know it happened more than once. So ask AAA and they had heard nothing.

Hey Spicey.. no you cannot make a left on red when it is a 2 way street. You were correct in waiting.. that was just an idiot behind you and Fl is full of them on the roads! The only time you can make a left on red in Fl is if you are on a one way street and you are turning onto a one way street (that is going left).

Here is the statue's exact wording..

The driver of a vehicle on a one-way street that intersects another one-way street on which traffic moves to the left shall stop in obedience to a steady red signal, but may then make a left turn into the one-way street, but shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrians and other traffic proceeding as directed by the signal at the intersection, except that municipal and county authorities may prohibit any such left turn as described, which prohibition shall be effective when a sign giving notice thereof is attached to the traffic control signal device at the intersection.

If it was a red arrow that means no turn allowed. But there are many combination arrow/non-arrow left turn signals in FL. Once the light turns green in both directions the red light goes out and you can make left turns after yeilding to oncoming traffic. This can be confusing to some drivers and I've sat behind people at these signals who seem to be waiting for the next green arrow.
