We will be visiting Disneyland in November and would like to take a day off from the parks to see some of the sights in LA and Hollywood. I've heard that traffic can be really bad. Can someone tell me which day(s) might be best to venture north?

We were thinking about either Sunday, Monday or Tuesday. Is Sunday any better than a weekday or is it worse? When would the best time be to travel the freeways on these days?

Really no matter what day of the week it is, expect some traffic. Sundays will have traffic and it isn't as easy to predict. Monday and Tuesday has much more traffic, but it is easier to predict when it will happen.

We just stayed at Disneyland the beginning of July. We drove up to Hollywood on a Sunday and left early. We parked near Hollywood Blvd. and were the 1st car in that parking lot. We got there about 10am. There weren't many people walking around yet either. When we left around 2pm, the area was quite crowded. We were going to drive to the beaches, but traffic was very heavy in that direction so we just went back to Disney. We had no traffic driving back, but traffic in the opposite direction was very heavy.

You can always take a tour using a local tour company. There is one that picks up at all of the Anaheim hotels and they will take you to on various tours. I did the L.A. city tour which was an entire day and covered L.A., Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Bellaire, Venice Beach, Santa Monica pier, Marina Del Rey and some star homes. The tour made several stops including the infamous walk of fame in Hollywood, a nice scenic mountain on Mullholland Drive overlooking the Hollywood Bowl, Downtown L.A. (the Disney Concert Hall is really coming along nicely), Farmer's Market for lunch (best place in L.A. to see the celebs), Venice Beach, Santa Monica Pier, and Marina Del Rey. It was a reasonable 50 bucks for the entire day. Not bad. Had a very entertaining AND informative driver too.

We were just out there last week staying at the DLH. We drove to San Juan Capistrano on Friday. Guest Services advised me not to leave the hotel until 10:30 AM and be back on the road by 3 PM. I took his advice and we didn't hit hardly any traffic. I think going north would have been a little different. He seemed to be glad I was going south.

We were also there last week and went to Hollywood, As stated in some of the other posts there is always alot of traffic however we were never in a rush so to us it was no big deal (the traffic that is).. It took us about an hour and a half to get there from Anaheim.. We left the hotel about 10:00am both days that we went which were weekdays and headed back to Anaheim around 3:00pm.. Just give yourself plenty of time no matter where you are traveling in CA...
