Traffic around, and parking at DTD?

Hi there We are headed to WDW in a week and I'm looking for current info and/or recent experience with the traffic and parking situation at DTD.

We are staying along Palm Parkway and plan on spending some time at DTD, so I'd like to know what the parking situation is. Is it nearly impossible to find parking at any particular time during the day? We don't have any set times to go there, we just figure we'll wing on our 'down days' (a Wed and a Sat). We could take the Lynx to DTD and not deal with parking, but we'd rather drive our own car (after all, a girl needs a place to store her shopping haul when heading to lunch or dinner!). The parking at DTD is still free, correct?

We've toyed with the thought of exploring and dining at AKL on one of our down days, are we allowed to take a bus from DTD to AKL after we've done some shopping? Or should we just drive to AKL? I don't want to do something that's frowned upon or not allowed.

Also, are there delays in the area as we drive to the parks? I just want to know what to expect.

We have had good luck going first thing in the morning. Easy and close parking. Avoid the weekend. Fri and Sat are like a mad house.

Thanks for the feedback Shelly. We'll go early and I guess we will skip DTD on Saturday.
