Trading SS into bcv

If I bought into SS or OKW, what are my chances of trading into BCV presidents week on a yearly basis

IMO, it would be about 50-50 but would in part depend on the unit type you want and whether you're able/willing to call when they open day by day and wait list day by day if not available when you call. No one knows for certain other than DVC and they don't release this information anymore.

For February 2006, I was able to use my VWL points for a 2BR at the BCV by calling day to day, beginning the first day they became available. I was told that the availability was very limited.

Your chances would be the same as owners at VWL, BWV, HH and VB as well as BCV owners who wait until 7 months.

If it's really important to you to stay at BCV during that specific week, it might be wise to just purchase a contract at BCV.

The other thing to remember is that any advice that someone gives you now could not be accurate a few years from now.

For example, if DVC adds more on-site properties to the mix, that could make BCV rooms harder to get. However, if they restrict our flexibility in the system, that could open up some availability at all resorts. Until DVC implemented the "one transfer" rule, availability at the smaller resorts was very limited. For now, availability seems to have opened up a bit. However, adding other resorts could really skew that again.

The truth is, no one really knows...the other posters are right...you have to make that decision for yourself.

Your chances are not as good as if you buy BCV and book it at 11 months

Members may have one transfer of points per year - either into or out of their account.

The policy was implemented originally in 1991 when DVC began. In 2003, they extended the policy to allow multiple transfers (also in only one direction) per year and this summer returned to the original policy.

This could also work the other way. If newer DVC resorts are in more demand, adding them would make more avaliability at the older resorts.

Unlikely this would help for BWV, VWL or BCV as with every unit added will be that many more points/members as well. The only way it'd help is if they added a boat load of units that were as or more desirable to the masses as the 3 above. In my estimation you'd have to get the percentage of very desirable units to about 60-65% of the total in DVC to see any real difference but I'd think it'd be more like 75-80% high demand to low demand to even it out. Or the other alternative it to make the other resorts like HH, VB, SSR or OKW as or more desirable to the entire group than those above which I don't see happening. Remember that even for a larger resort like AKL, it's the number that trade out at or after the 7 months window that counts, not the total number of units. And it's really the total that trade out to the non destination resorts because if they trade to one of the destination resorts, it's not freeing up a single room, only moving it around. I'd estimate that it would take an AKL, CRV, Poly and DL DVC resort to even make a dent in the extra demand from SSR alone not to mention the others noted above.
