I hope this is okay...I have a night in a 1 bedroom BWV standard and I would like to switch it for 1 night 1 bedroom at BCV. The rest if our reservation is at BCV. Would it be ok to post specifics and ask if anyone wanted to trade? Thinking a 3 way call to MS would work...naive? Perhaps!

I'm not sure how you would go about that. It likely wouldn't work but you would want to post in the "rent" sections under the DVC tab on this site.

perhaps...but i don't think it hurt-anyone to ask.

this kills me.....i think this is a good question & something dvc
should promote....members helping members. not thought
about it until your question, but i bet there are others in the
same situation...too bad dvc don't list members seeking
members on their site so this could be done.

"it kills me"....because i have the expectation for dvc to
back up that their dvc magazine "talk-putting members
first."

I didn't mean to be a downer, but I think that's how it sounded. It's just really hard to have a specific request like that and find a match. Good luck!

Why don't you just waitlist the 1 bedroom BCV for the night you need? That would be the easiest, and well within the limits of what is allowed. This kind of situation is exactly what the waitlist is for.

Diane I absolutely have a wait list! I just doubt it will be filled. It just occurred to me that maybe someone else has a split going the other way. :)

I get why it would not be practical ill grumpy on a larger scale (like DVC wide). Having lots of people trading nights would be extra work for MS and if they sponsored the activity they would be responsible, right?

Bilzer, thanks for the rent/trade board suggestion!

Thanks everyone!

The bigger issue is that we all pay for Member Services. Outside of the potential logistical nightmare it would cause, I would not be happy if my dues went up for something like this.

If I were to have a reservation, and swap it with someone who had the exact reservation at a different resort....How would you suppose that work? I wouldn't have a problem with it if members found it themselves and called MS to swap reservations. I don't see why that couldn't be implemented (as I'm sure it probably isn't allowed as it would be a cancel and rebook for both members). However, I do have a problem with MS actively involved in this as it would go completely against 7m/11m booking priories. Maybe the rental boards or another site could list such a scenario but the number of members on these sites compared to the total number of members is only a small fraction you would reach.

My initial thought about MS assisting with trades like this is: What about the person that's next on the waitlist? They get passed up.

In any case, OP, I hope you get the room you are hoping for somehow. Good luck!

First to the OP's question:

You may post a Trade Wanted thread on the DVC Rent/Trade board. But to do so, you must meet the posting requirements or pay for the Gold level membership. Details can be found in the **How to Use this Board** sticky thread on the Rent/trade board.

Now, to address the question of DVC Member Services assisting in such trades...I don't see what would be in it for DVC as a whole. All members would have to pay to support such a service through dues, and rules would need to be drawn up about how such a system would work. Seems like a lot of work for something used by a minority of members, and as other stated, what about waitlists? This really bring home the thinking behind buy where you wish to stay. buy enough points for your normal travel needs and book during your home resort priority window. Plus there are already several DVC fansites, including the DISBoards, that provide a workable option for such trades at no cost to the general membership if the members desiring the trade wish to try to find such a trade.

In general, I would think, even if Member Services did offer this service, there would be very few exact matches found.
