Can anyone give me any information about trading RCI into DVC? We are currently planning a trip for December 2011, and would like to know how hard it's going to be to get this time? We really want to do BLT as one person in our party is in a wheelchair, and the monorail will be very convientient and mom loves the comtempoary.

I would not plan on reserving BLT through RCI. The most common and numerous deposits are through OKW and SSR. Also, you will need a very strong RCI trader, deposited at the right time, to trade in. We were able to trade into a 2BR BCV, but many people have tried and never see any exchanges for DVC as RCI is very selective. I am no timeshare expert, but make sure you deposit about 18 months out at your home resort, and put in an ongoing request. If you must have a certain week, I'd put in a request at all DVC resorts to be covered. Good luck!

Trading in to DVC for Dec may be a little challenging. It will vary somewhat whether you are in RCI weeks or RCI points. For RCI weeks, trade power and an early search are the most important issues. For RCI points, it's to keep checking daily to multiple times daily starting exactly 10 months out. IF your deposits will see DVC now for the week side, you should be OK.

We are on weeks. Also, does bonnet creek get EMH's? TIA
Can you see the 100 or so DVC resorts that are on RCI weeks right now? If so, you have a good chance of getting something, if not, you will have to figure a way to get a better trading week/resort or will not be able to trade to DVC. It is generally taking a well rated resort and red (not pink) to bright red week to trade for DVC. There is a lot of variability as to what will trade for DVC and what will not. Many are finding they cannot see the DVC deposits when they would expect to. Even to the degree that two people with the same week deposited at about the same time are getting different results. At this moment I see 97 weeks in RCI weeks for DVC anywhere from Sept through next March. There are currently 1 BR units in Dec there have been a few 2 BR units over the last few months for Dec.

How is the transportation from OKW and SSR?
The busses are fine. Overall likely better than the higher demand resorts.

Thanks! We haven't started looking directly yet since we aren't going until dec 2011, just trying to get an idea of what will be available. Our week is a red week so that makes things easier. Also, has anyone stayed in the 3 bedrooms? How are they? Would they be ok for DM-66, DDad-70, DB-40, DSIL-48, Dniece-18, DNephew-17, DH-29, Me-25 and hopefully with fingers and toes crossed tight DD or DS-1 (we are hoping to be a family or 3 by then). Or should DH and me look at our own room? All we do there is sleep, and maybe take an afternoon break. Thanks for the help!

As a rule 3 BR units are almost never deposited. Having a red week is not necessarily enough, you need to investigate whether your resort and the week you have access to is likely to pull DVC, it may not. I have a 1 BR red week that will and 2 & 3 BR red weeks at GC resorts that would not.

Thanks for you help but my question was more would we all fit comforatbly or should DH and I get our own room and let the other 8 stay in a 2 or 3 bedroom?

I counted 8 plus one on the way in your list above, that is at the Max of the occupancy limits. Adding another 1 or 2 will not work either in limits or in function. Even with the 8 plus one you'd have to have couples sharing a room, one of the teens in the pull out and one on the floor. Even then, one of the couples might have to be in a pullout. From an exchange standpoint, only OKW will guarantee two queen beds in the second BR and will also have the most space. The alternative is to try to get a 2 BR anywhere and then try to get a second room either as a second exchange or cash including member rental.

Assuming you have one unit per year to trade, here's how I'd approach it. I'd try to determine now whether I had the likely trade power to trade for DVC which I mentioned previously, you may not. Then I'd deposit the best possible week for both 2010 AND 2011 and deposit as early as possible. If you have to pay your fees to deposit earlier, do so. I'd start a search immediately for a 2 BR DVC for the time frame you can accept with the 2010 deposit then wait. When you can deposit the 2011 week, the same criteria apply. Once (if) you match I'd then use the second deposit to search for a second unit at the same resort only. I'd probably limit that search to a 1 BR unit but in part it depends on the week and resort you get on the first search. I'd then keep my eyes open for 1 BR units for the first search so you can re-evaluate your decisions in case you're not matching the 2 BR. Then when you get about 6 months out if you haven't matched you might consider adding some of the better off property locations like Hilton, Cypress Harbour.

If it appears unlikely you're not going to be able to match DVC, I'd take the same approach for off property options, you may want to consider listing 3 BR units at the Hiltons that have them, you may also want to list the Houses at Summer Bay, 3 BR Lake Homes with a pool about 8-9 miles away.

Staying off site isn't an option. We just got back from a trip off-site and it was such a hassle. We do get to trade into DVC, as there are several showing up now for this fall and winter.
Could we fit into a 3 bedroom DVC comfortably? Mom has even considered just rent a 3 bedroom DVC if we can't trade into one, or either just getting 3 rooms. Is it easy to get 2 2 bedrooms at the same place?

As I said, 3 BR units are not really an option. The chances of getting two 2 BR units at the same resort are fairly low but would be much better at OKW and SSR. All you can do is try to get one unit then try to get the second one. If you wait for 2 at the same time, you're chances are infinitely lower.

If you are often going to need multiple larger units, etc. on a regular basis, and offsite is not acceptable to you, you might be a candidate for buying enough resale points to cover your stays. Trying to make that happen via exchange is going to be tricky unless you can travel during slower times for DVC demand.

I agre with Brian. This isn't going to happen very easily any time of year, and will be near impossible in December.

Not to hijack the OP thread, just have a question. I am a weeks owner and have deposted hoping to get a week in Oct via trade-since I am not seeing anything for DVC assume it is not going to happen....so would you recommend the Celebration area or would we be better to take one of the other RCI resorts offsite? TIA

It appears you do not have sufficient trade power to trade for DVC. For RCI weeks I'd list the Hilton's, Wyndham Bonnet Creek, The Fountains, Oasis Lake at the Fountains, Cypress Harbour (a Marriott in RCI) and likely the Houses at Summer Bay in addition to DVC. If one were set on a 3 BR or larger, only some of these fit that bill. A 3 BR is possible at the Hiltons, Bonnet Creek ( or 4 BR but not likely), Summer Bay and Oasis lakes.

The 3BR is pretty unlikely at Bonnet Creek, as well. I don't recall ever seeing one. What's more, I think most of the 3BRs at HGVC are in the same trade power tier as DVC---at least during more in-demand seasons.

If you need a 3BR unit, I'd add three Diamond resorts to the set you are looking for: the two Cypress Pointes and Grand Beach.

I have seen the 3 BR and at least 1 4 BR but overall I'm sure you're right. Another thing to be careful of is that many 3 BR don't sleep more than 8 though they may be more functional for a party such as described here.
