Hi all, I have some newbie questions. We just bought 100 pts. at OKW, but we don't actually close until the end of April. The contract comes with 97 banked pts. that expire Aug 31, 2007, but I can't make any ressies until we close. If I want to trade those for the same amt that expire later, how do I do that? What is the process? On another note, if I can't trade them and need to use them, can I get some info on HHI and VB? Just wondering how wickedly hot and humid it would be at the end of June. Not a huge fan of the heat (this would probably be the only time I will vacation down south in the middle of the summer) Any thoughts on one over the other. My feeling is that if it's going to be sweltering, I would rather be right on the beach(VB) than not(HHI). Also, have read a little about the bugs being an issue as well. Any info on that would be great. Don't mean to sound completely unreasonable, I realize summer is hot, but I just don't want to set myself up for a miserable vacation the 1st time I use DVC. You can use the points at any DVC location or any of the direct exchange options like Concierge, DCL or the DC. You could also deposit a 1 BR with II for 160 points. You should have time to do so once you are formally closed and the registration is changed over. Or you could rent them out.

It sounds like you want to trade those points now for something you can use later. If you can make that arrangement you'll likely have to receive less points than you give to the other person. Of course course you can't bank them or transfer them if they are actually banked points.
The other issue is what about the "current use year" points. Are they banked already? If not, you will have problems with those as well once you close. The current owner could bank as many as possible if they haven't done so already.

I guess I'm a little confused. Let me try to clarify my situation a little better. The use year starts in September. I have 97 2005 pts that were banked in August of '06 and need to be used by aug of '07. I'm assuming that means I need to physically be staying somewhere and I can't just make a ressie for a later date, right? Second, I have 100 current use years that need to be banked (or may already be) by aug of this year. If I close in April, can't I bank them myself or does the current owner need to do that before closing? Third, as far as trading the 97 pts for ones that expire later, would I be receiving less because I'm trading pts that expire sooner?
If I decide to use the 97 pts, would I be able to get into WDW at the end of June
if I can't make a ressie until the end of April?

Any 2005 banked points have to be used for stays up to August 31, 2007, or they will be lost. How many points are allotted annually in the contract? That will determine how long you have to bank those 100 2006 points.

For September use years, you have until March 31, 2007 to bank 100% of the total contract points to 2007 use year.

You have until May 31, 2007 to bank 50% (cumulative total) of the total points on the contract, and until June 30, 2007, to bank 25%.

For instance, if it is a 200 point contract, you could bank all 200 2006 points until March. 100 Points (again, cumulative), until May and 50 cumulative points until June.

HHI (for sure) and VB (probably) will be miserably hot and humid in late June.
Maybe you should think about renting out your points that have to be used by end of August and use the $ to do a trip elsewhere.

That's great news for you, I was worried somewhat. You will have to actually do the visit to use those points in all cases except for II deposits. But it could be exchange options like the Concierge Collection.
