I have heard that a CM MUST trade a pin you want for one of yours. Is this true, and what are the "ground rules" for making the trade? Also, I have 2 of the pins from the 50 years of magic celebration that light up at special events, does anyone know if these will still work during parades, shows, etc. as they did then? Thanks!

I can almost taste the ribs and beer at the BBQ....can't wait.:thumbsup2

Cast members will always accept any trade you offer. There are some restrictions, you are only supposed to trade a max of 2 pins per cast member... but other than that, cast members are under strict orders to accept every trade from every guest. :)

Pretty sure they can't trade IF they all ready have the pin you want to give them on their lanyard.

But aside from that its very easy to trade with cast members.

Unless they already have the pin displayed that you wish to trade!

And yes, it is limited to two trades per CM, and green lanyards on a CM mean they only trade with children!

It is very easy, everyone I approached was pleasant, personable, and happy to trade!:thumbsup2

I really appreciate all the info. My problem is all the pins that I have mean something to me...so deciding which one to trade is going to be the trick! I really need a monorail pin though!

I had a CM tell me once that they don't have to trade a pin that THEY purchase themselves. Other than that they will always trade unless they already have it. Green lanyards are for kids under 12(?) only and the max is 2 trades per person.

Pins they have purchased themselves won't be on their lanywards at work.

If the pin is on the CMs lanyard they trade it. The will trade for any pin they don't have as long as it's a Disney pin. It's not difficult just ask any CM to see their pins, They hold the lanyard out so you can see what they have. Say no thank you if you don't see anything you like, if you wish to trade tell them which pin you want and hand them the pin of yours you are trading.

LOL, trust me, if they see you with your lanyard, even if they are in the middle of something that tend to hold their lanyard out and let you look :lmao: If you are interested, then just wait til they are done doing their thing and they will happily trade with you.

If you are looking for trading pins to trade, you can usually find them on ebay in lots, for less then $2 each..\

Great suggestion on eBay. My brother used to go to parties (Disney parties?, pin parties? not sure what they were) and would buy bags of pins for very cheap, then use those to trade with CMs.

The lanyards and pins the Cast Members wear are property of WDW because they don't own them. For example I once traded to a pin to a Cast Member stading outside the Hall of Presidents. Well when I walked back there later on in the day a different Cast Member was wearing that same lanyard with the exact pin I traded earlier because it was in the same position. So when the original Cast Member went off duty he gave the lanyard the next Cast Member to wear.

We never trade the ones that are special to us. We do the ebay thing and it works out great! On our last trip alone we got all the monorails and all the haunted mansion hitchhiking ghosts! It was so much fun and we only spent about $25 on a lot of 35 pins and got so many more good ones in return! Have fun and good luck

I have been told by each CM that we have traded with that the pins belong to Disney, not the CM. There is a 2 pin maximum rule, but unless they are wearing a green lanyard, they will gladly trade with you.

I have talked to some CMs who have a "private stock" of pins on a pad in their pocket. not on a lanyard. not sure if these too are Disney property, but one would think these are their own. But who knows. Knowing Disney, they probably have rules for CMs having their personal pins with them at work. It's easier to not have the conflict if you write the stipulation into the rules...

Because there are some Cast Members who don't like to wear lanyards they can also wear the thing you mentioned on their pants, so the guests can trade for any pins off there like they would if the Cast Member was wearing a lanyard.

so question?
i understand i wouldnt be able to trade off a green lanyard, but can my daughter trade off of any lanyad? or os she limited to the green ones?

She can trade off the one only for kids or the blue lanyard which anyone can trade from, so the answer is anyone she wants.

thank you! that would be dissapointing if she was limited.
does anyone find the quality different from the 2 lanyards? what would the purpose of making one only for kids be?
