We are heading down in March and my daughter is wanting to get started in pin trading....she is a little burned out on the princess outfits....(help me please, she is only 4 1/2!). I was wondering the cost of each pin. I know it varies, but I told her she can get 1 pin a day, so wondering how much to budget. Thanks.:wave2:

I believe the least expensive pin I have seen is $6.95. There are still many choices at this price point, so no worries. :thumbsup2

If she wants to try pin trading, start with some cheap (i.e. < $2/each) pins from eBay. You can make a game out of getting pins of the same character, from the same set, etc. My DD has been doing this for several years and loves it. I just bought her 30 pins for our trip this summer.

There are starter pin trading sets that they sell at the parks and come with the lanyard and 5-6 different pins to start her off. All different types of themes so I am sure you will find one she will love Also, try a Disney store/outlet. Maybe they have a few at a decent price.

I second ebay...that is where we get all our pins now. We can sometimes find a lot of them for just over $1.00 a piece (usually it's in the $2/pin price range). It doesn't matter what pins we get b/c our boys just love to trade them for ones they really want. Plus, we have received pins from Tokyo and Paris so it is neat to see those.

I agree with the previous posts. Ebay is a great way to get pins for trading. Just make sure you check the postage. Some people charge more for the postage than for the pin!

I looked into this while we were there. They have starter sets for around $17. I believe it includes 4 pins and a lanyard.

My son who is 10 started collecting the pins last year after we went to Downtown Disney and Animal Kingdom. After two days, he accumalated a lanyard full of pins. I did not realize how much I spent on them until I got home and counted my receipts. I about fell in the floor when the added up to close to 175.00!

We started pin trading for our daughter, but before long, the whole family was hooked! I agree with the suggestions to try starter sets from the parks, and discount codes and sales from disney online. Be VERY wary of lots on Ebay. So many of them contain scrappers and fakes, and it's heartbreaking when your kids get stuck with them. I have had great luck with two Ebay sellers - olivejuiceyou and thewill. They don't sell those huge lots of cheap (and questionable) pins, but they offer great deals on combined shipping. You get high quality pins for $2-3 each. The risk you run with them is that your daughter will love all her pins and won't want to trade any of 'em! :rotfl:

Thank you for all of the advice. I did take a look at ebay....I was wondering if those huge lots were all authentic...hmm.... I have seen the starter pack with lanyard and we do have 6 that have been accumulated over the trips. My husband and I each received one for doing the segway tour in Epcot. (btw, the most expensive tour we ever did..DH ended up buying a segway!) and the rest were just from generous cast members who thought DD could use a pin. Thanks again.

your promising to buy her one a day will not work, as she will not pick out something that she is willing to trade, and you can get 2-3 pins for the same price online. Get the cheapest ones you can find from ebay and then she can trade up.

The problem is every time they "love" all their pins we ended up buying more. (Fortunatly grandma was with us!) I think 4 cuties are $25? Just buy her those (if you don't go the ebay route) and have her trade them for bigger/better ones. My kids started with 8 each.. and after 2 trips both have about 40.. as do I. It's very addictive.

Not a huge investment when you get them from ebay for $2 or so each to begin with.

Have fun! We love trading. :)

Very addicting the whole family has binders full. Ebay is a good suggestion.
