For those who have traded DVC their points via II/RCI or other means, where did you go and would you do it again?

Do you feel your exchange was worth it?

I haven't traded out my DVC points and thus was not eligible to vote in your poll. My current position:
  • I've not yet traded DVC points out through RCI/II.
  • I have no particular intention to trade out the DVC points through RCI/II.
  • I'm not ready to say, "I'd never trade out." (Trading out remains a nice option to keep open should I find myself with a pool of unused points facing expiration.)
Related Comments:
  • I seriously considered using DVC points to book a stay at Tanque Verde Ranch when that was offered through the Concierge Collection. It was something I'd likely never book on cash ... the points were at least reasonable and the reviews favorable.
  • I use both RCI and II frequently with other timeshare. I enjoy searching both systems online to hunt for various exchange offerings.
  • I have access to exchanges through DAE, SFX, GPX and other smaller exchange programs.
  • I research my exchanges through TUG reviews and forum discussions before booking. I have at least a general sense of "good value" destinations and have enjoyed every exchange thus far. (In full disclosure, I had one RCI Bonus Vacation that didn't start off well ... but the on-site RCI desk graciously moved our reservation to a different resort down the street.)
  • I like the idea of exchanging DVC through BVTC for stays at Club Intrawest locations and similar properties. I'd like to see BVTC expanded to include additional timeshare/vacation club affiliations.

I've used my points in the Concierge collection (I don't think that is RCI)

I loved trading out, the hotels were fantastic and the vacations great. So far we have done.
1) Washington DC
2) New York city
3) Chicago
4) London

We would do it again and probably will.

I have not trade out of DVC yet. But I have exchanged my other timeshares for DVC though.

In 2011, we plan on going to DLRP and I do plan on trading out of DVC for that reservation. And we did toy with the idea of using the Adventures By Disney, but balked at that idea.

May I ask where you hope to stay? I frequently see Marriott's Village d'Ile-de-France (II code:MVF) when searching Interval ... but of course we can't trade our points for that location.

You forgot to include "DVC Cruise" as a choice! Did this, was a good use of points at the time! :thumbsup2

I want to stay at the Hotels on Disney Property, and the Marriott is a fall back choice. My first choice is the Disneyland Hotel 47pts Su-Th, 76pts F&S nights.

I can get the Marriott with one of my Westin weeks.

Oh! That changes my understanding of "trading out." If Disney resorts count -- then yes! I booked 3 nights over a holiday weekend at Disney's Grand California Resort in 2008 for 108 points. We were upgraded to Club level on arrival -- great use of points! :thumbsup2

This is exactly what I am hoping to do in Paris.

I paid cash (tried to exchange but no availability and cash price better) for The Grand Macinaw MI and Tanque Verde Ranch.

I did sucessfully get trade to Harborside Atlantis but that is part of II and now DVC partners with RCI.

I would like to do more trades but think I'll have to work with individuals than thru DVC because DVC is too hard and doesn't come thru for me. (But haven't tried RCI yet so maybe it would work).

I would like a DVC ski resort in CO.

We traded through II for a week at a resort in the Midwest. Although everything worked great with the availability and trade, we felt it wasn't a good use of points. We would have been better off renting the points and using the cash to reserve the timeshare.

:thumbsup2 Traded to Mexico for a trip March 2010. Will let you know how it went as soon as we get back!

Personally, I feel that 99% of the RCI and II trades are not worth the Disney points. There are exceptions like some of the Hawaiian Resort, Four Seasons Resorts, Some of the Caribbean Resorts, etc. Peak times and Holiday weeks are also good exchanges, depending on locations.

We're trading our 2010 points for a week in Pigeon Forge. I'll let you know how it goes after we get back in August of next year. The one thing I'm disappointed about is that we'll be charged $35 a day for housekeeping. I don't need daily housekeeping -- I like the DVC model just fine.

I'm assuming this if for less than a week. There is only one resort in PF on the DVC exchange list, Sunrise Ridge. I believe you'll find this is a one time $35 housekeeping fee, not $35 per day. Here is some additional information
Mandatory cleaning fees may apply to RCI points reservationsone bedroom is $35 and two bedroom is $50. Units that have an H at the end of the unit number are handicapped units. There are only two fully handicap units with a roll in shower, raised seat and bars in the bathroom. Units that are duplexes have several stairs and no elevator. Please contact an RCI guide for more information. The two fully handicap units are 3105-H and 3113-H. The duplex units that have several stairs are 3018 to 3029.
RCI POINTS: Inbounds should anticipate a room move and paying housekeeping fees. RCI WEEKS: Resort is unable to change unit size/location from RCI confirmation. Duplex units 3018-3029 have many stairs. There are up to 15 stairs to access units 3004-3029 and 9001-9003. Handicapped unitshave an 'H' after the unit number. Please contact the resort at 423/908-6040 prior to arrival for more information. A credit card imprint is required as a sercurity deposit. RCI assigns unit number. Please do not contact the resort for changes. Your air-conditioned unit at Sunrise Ridgefeatures a full kitchen, a whirlpool tub (not in handicap units), a washer/dryer, 2TVs and a VCP. Some units have a gas fireplace. All units have a large balcony or patio and have breathtaking views of the Smokey Mountains. 1BR deluxe OCC: Max 4/Pri 4 have 1 king bed and a queen sleep sofa. 1BR Standard units OCC: Max 4/Pri 4 (no fireplace) havea queen bed and queen sleep sofa. 2BR OCC:Max 6/Pri 6 have 2 king beds and a queen sleep sofa. 2BR OCC: Max 8/Pri 6 are loft units with 2 king beds, 2 twin beds and a sleep sofa. No pets or RV parking allowed.
Interesting they state that RCI points reservations should expect a unit change.

Our trade was in 2008 under II to Marriott Waiohai in Kauai. :cloud9:

Dean -- I'm hoping it's a one-time fee -- when I requested the exchange I was told that it was daily. Since we wanted to go to Pigeon Forge anyway, we figured $35/day was cheaper than paying for a room somewhere else. If it's a one time fee, that makes it an even better deal for us. Since we just got back from WDW, another trip next year isn't in the cards for us.

We traded dev pts for a stay at RCI in Gatlinburg and there was a one time $35 housekeeping fee. We enjoyed the stay. Nice room and location.
