Hi Everyone,

I was lucky enough to trade into a 2BR at BWV last May. There was a ton of availability then. I own a weeks resort in Hawaii with a trade power of 28 and there is little to nothing now. Do the units get deposited with RCI 7 months in advance of a travel date of 11 months? If I am looking to trade in February of 2012 when would my best be to find availability? I have never done an ongoing search; maybe I need to do that? I really can't justify paying cash so we may just be "stuck" staying off site. :scared1:

What it appears is that DVC does some deposits at around 10 months out and a lot more at 7 months out. They've also been depositing more to the points side than the weeks side recently it appears. I just booked a 2 BR for Oct at SSR on points and there were several options for that time but weeks had nothing past August. At one time a week or 2 ago there were NO weeks on deposit for either system. You REALLY need to do an ongoing search, your chances of success are much better if you do.

Inventory ebbs and flows. In the past, deposits have come roughly weekly, but in 2011 they seem to be depositing in larger chunks, but less often. Today, it is getting close to "low-tide". A new deposit could come any day now---the last serious addition was on 2/7.

(I search regularly, and post the interesting bugs on TUG in the Sightings board at tugbbs.com. If you are a member there, you should have access.)

When a deposit hits, units go VERY quickly. Placing an ongoing search would be wise.

Thanks everyone! I will definitely put in an ongoing search. I am just amazed at how much things have changed from 2010 to now! I need a specific week (April school vacation to boot) but don't care what resort. Maybe I will get lucky with OKW or SS?? I need at least a 1BR as well. Does anyone happen to know what the RCI Exchange value of a 1BR is?

Things haven't really changed that much---this ebb and flow has been going on since they moved to RCI in '09. My guess: when you looked last year, you looked shortly after a deposit. When you are looking now, it has been longer since the last one. Trade power required was reduced slightly around late May '10, and then increased again a little bit around November '10, but not back up to the levels in the first half of 2010.

Almost all of the 1BRs I've seen are 25.

Awesome. Thanks again! I have a 28 so maybe we will get lucky. Are 2 BR's much more?

i think 2BRs are generally 25 pts also (which is silly and will probably change).

there just aren't as many 2BRs available for trade...

Very strange. I do see studios availble now for the summer and they are 25 as well. You would think the larger accommodations would require a higher trade value??? Maybe we will do an ongoing search for a 2BR first then 1 BR. I've never even done an ongoing search before but there is a first time for everything. Since we will have a rental car it doesn't really matter which resort we are at. Fingers crossed!:thumbsup2

RCI just started their "points lite" overlay for the weeks side, so i expect things will be adjusted sooner or later. it is very strange for studios and 2BRs...summer and winter...to go for the same point value...

We're staying at OKW in April through an RCI weeks exchange. My account says it was a 25 tp exchange. This year I was told my deposit had a high of 23 and I got it at 22 because I deposited it in January. So I guess we can't exchange into DVC anymore. It doesn't make sense to me because this is our second exchange. Last year we stayed in a studio at SSR.

Good luck and have fun!

For the first several days, there were distinct differences based on size and season. About one week into the new scheme, everything jumped up to 25, regardless. A few (a *very* few) larger units have been higher, e.g. some July 4th weeks, etc. The only exceptions have been last-minute weeks.

If mid-September SSR studio is really 25, then you'd think the 2BR July BCV I saw would be more, but it wasn't. Reading between the lines, it appears as though Disney insisted on a floor, because there's no other way to justify flat pricing for all sizes/seasons, and there's no value to RCI in doing so. The smaller/off-season units have been hanging around for a long time under the current valuation scheme.

But, if you've been around RCI even a short while, you know that the one thing you can count on is that things change.

I traded 2 weeks in 2BR villas for this September. I booked them 9-10 months out. One was deposited exactly 11 months out and the other at about 10 1/2 months.
