Anyone have any opinions of this resort? Looking for a nice place to stay (on the beach) for our November trip. Tried the Sheraton Sand Key but it is booked solid.

Thanks! Paula

Have never stayed there but live nearby. It encompasses several adjacent hotels and they do vary from what I'm told so which Tradewinds' does make a difference. The complex is in a lively area, plenty to eat and shop around there so you'll like the location. It is about 1-3/4 hrs drive from the maingate of WDW.

Well, I know our opinion differs from most I guess but we stayed at the Tradewinds Island Grand a couple of years ago. We were looking so forward to this and I have to say I was totally disappointed. For the price, $200 per night, which by the way was half price with Entertainment rate, it was nothing to brag about. The fact that we had just come from the Vistana Villages in Orlando, spent half that on a gorgeous two bedroom condo may have something to do with it though. Honestly, most rave about this place and I just don't get it, but to each his own I guess. Also, Steve mentioned that it is in a lively area? Well I'd have to disagree unless things have changed in the two years since I've been. We drove through Clearwater Beach on our way and next time we would definitely choose to stay there instead, seemed a lot "busier" and much more to do. Just my opinion!

I would agree with with debbie, we stayed there a couple of times and were dissappointed both times. :( Not happy with the area, or with the resort. They had several "private" functions and kept closing off pools, or other areas or the private guest, we were very unhappy. have not returned in a few years. However the beach is beauitful, and prefer the west coast to the east coast beaches. ;)

MKY :D

We Pricelined this resort last August, for $60 per night. We had a big room with a nice kitchen, the beach was wide and lovely, and although the resort was almost deserted, we had a really nice time. It IS a little large, but we liked it very much. We were in the main building, on a high floor.

There is a really nice steak restaurant in this complex, and also a neat bar between the pool and the beach, where they do a shot with everyone at the moment the sun goes down. And do try Crabby Bill's restaurant - we loved it.

Have fun!

Stayed for a week at the Island Grand for our honeymoon two years ago. Had booked a deluxe room but as our honeymoon gift didn't arrive at our first hotel in Orlando our tour company upgraded us to a one bedroomed Gulf view suite. What a view and we got a kitchen/lounge area. The resort was lovely not too busy and we loved the adults only pool - there are two others which allow children. The beach was wonderful especially watching the sunset then fireworks on July 4th. The Flying Bridge was a good place to eat overlooking the beach and the bar I believe it is called Baracuda's was a nice place for a drink and a game of Pool. It is also nicely located for getting out and about from as we went to Bradenton over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, on a catamaran to an nearby island and also up to Clearwater for deep sea fishing. Closer to the hotal was Pass aGrille which was a lovely area near to the Don Cesar (sp?) hotel.
Would definitely go back again.
Claire ;)
