Trader Sam's - when to go??

are kids allowed in there? Not that I would take my kids to a normal bar but Disney is different.....right?!?!? :)

Disney, and Trader Sam's, IS different-- it's really loud in there, with a lot of shouting about angered gods and erupting volcanoes. One of a couple of children there was crying his eyes out.

The only way kids can get in would be to show up before 4:00, I figure, since if you show up any later, and have a three-hour wait, it'd be 8:00 before you got in, and children wouldn't be permitted at that time. But I wouldn't recommend bringing young children inside, at all. Enjoy the tiki drinks on the patio, instead.

I would expect that if you take your pager and go to the MK you won't know when it goes off and you could be at the back of the line if you show up 3 hours later and by some miracle you got in an hour early. LOL!

I have a stay booked at the Poly DVC in September. I think my pager and I will just go to the pool and read.

What's the deal with the patio? Do you think we would be able to get a drink out there next week sometime, or would it also be insane? We are flexible on time.

It would obviously be a calculated risk, but one that some might want to take instead of giving up three hours of their vacation in exchange for the opportunity to buy a tropical drink. My very first thought for Poly guests would be to spend the time at the pool, but unfortunately, the Volcano pool is undergoing renovations this month. That will work well for you in September, though.

The construction sort of diminishes the experience out on the patio right now, as well, but I think the patio will be a nice place to hang out once the renovations are completed.

The patio is first-come first-served, and was full in late afternoon, though I think a short wait would get a table. There is a counter-service bar for the tiki drinks (no food), and a CM informed me that a server MAY come by the table to take an appetizer order.

This left me with the conclusion that, for the time being, at least, there are only two ways you're going to get in: Arrive by 3:00 and wait til 4:00, or arrive shortly after 4:00, get a pager, and expect to come back in a few hours. The latter approach might allow you to run over to MK for a while, or to enjoy an ADR at Kona, first (the food menu at Grog Grotto is limited to a few appetizers-- even more limited than the already-small menu I'd seen for the Disneyland Trader Sam's).

It was very fun, and the drinks were great. I thought it was worth the effort.

Thank you! This is helpful. So I guess we can get in line and then one of us could go get some lapu lapu's to enjoy while we wait...

lol that would be amazing. Unfortunately this is a shorter trip for star wars weekends so I don't think we can do the pager route, we will have to do the early arrival!

I am not aware that there have been 6 hour waits since the first night of operation. A couple of hours, maybe up to 3 hours, sure. Apparently tonight there is a media event and they won't open to the public until later in the evening.

I like the idea of getting a pager at 4 and then taking off for 2-3 hours. Wonder what the wait is like later--if you show up at 10pm, is there still a line? Too bad it's not open into the wee hours. Looking forward to September--hopefully the mad crush will die down some before then. :)

We will be there in just over 2 weeks. Two ADRs are booked at Poly, plus we do like to visit the resort quite often...so hoping we can get into Trader Sam's at some point. Really looking forward to it!

We are staying there in October so will probably get a pager and take it down to the pool.

I will be there tomorrow.... will give the 10:30pm time frame a shot......???????

That's my plan for August. We have an ADR at Cali Grill and then plan on heading over to Trader Sam's around 11 pm. If the wait is too long we will bar hop to Tambu Lounge or somewhere else.
