Trader Sam's Dinner

...Half of the patio is seating for Trader Sams and the other half was for Tangaroa Terrace and I am not certain if you are allowed to bring to go alcoholic drinks across the rope...

We've eaten outside at Tangaroa Terrace and brought alcoholic drinks from Trader Sam's across the rope. In fact, the CMs there encouraged us to do so, since TS was so crowded and the wait for a table was over an hour.

If anybody has an in at Sam's I'd love to know their source for the seaweed... I want to start doing the poke at home and that is a must for it!!!

Costco's in California have Ahi Poke Tuna bars on the weekends now, I know the one in Tustin near Anaheim definately does (most of ours here in the Bay Area do also). And the "Limu" version they sell adds the delicious stringy seaweed to it. Some Costco's get their ahi fresh and make it on site, and some get it pre-mixed/made. So next time you're in Anaheim maybe see if Costco nearby has a recipe for their seaweed strings. I would ask for you at mine, but from my experience they have it flown in pre-mixed.

Hope that helps :)

BTW - Yosuke Sushi in Anaheim has a seaweed salad similar to the TS that's pretty great as does my favorite - Ohshima Japanese Cuisine
(1956 N Tustin St, Orange, CA 92865) in case you want to try those next trip. They're really friendly at Ohshima and would probably give you their recipe.

Curious, what are people's experience going to Trader Sams late later at night for dinner - any better? We're a pair of adults, so before 8pm isn't really a thing for us...but I'd definitely want to get into TS when it wasn't over the top crazy crowded! lol

It's been packed till they close for the night in my previous experience (and yes, I was there at closing).

Very much this I can attest to. One time I was there we got there around 4 PM I want to say and let's just say my bill was around $200 after generous tip and I wasn't walking straight LOL. I think we ended up leaving around 8 or 9 PM and other nights we came back around 10 to 11 and there was no signs of slowing down it's why I always recommend people going earlier because you have a much higher chance of getting a good spot at the bar or table.

...so I guess my plan of hitting it at 11pm after everyone else goes to bed is maybe not the best idea ever? heh! At least we are going in January (post RoA closure sadly,) so there's hope that the crowds wont be as intense!

I've gone to Trader Sam's every time of year and can honestly say there has never been a slow time LOL. I'm sure it's possible but we've gone weekdays and weekends and never seen much difference.
We thought with the parks closing early once it wouldn't be bad..NOOOPE wrong.

We had no issues when going right when they opened.... only time it's going to be a practical guarantee.

We are home now....here were my experiences regarding the crowds at dinner time at Trader Sams....
Peeked in last Thursday night after swimming around 6:15. There were some bar stools and a couple open tables. We didn't eat there as the girls requested their favorite- Storytellers - for dinner. Popped in again for a drink and bite tonight around 5:15, and the availability was the same. And by the time we left around 6:00, still seating available. Hope that helps someone in their planning!

I agree, Whoever. I've gone a few times right at 11:30 when they open for lunch and always get a table.:thumbsup2
