I have hear alot about Trader Joe's. I found out that there is one not too far from me. Can anyone give me some great food finds from TJ's? What are the best for my WW POINTS? :teeth: Thanks

I love the Chicken Chorizo sausage- I cook it with Zatatarans black beans and rice
They have wrap sandwiches that are very satisfying and low in fat.
Look in the frozen section for low fat greek spinach pie
I haven't calculated the points on any of it.

Sam - they have wonderful frozen food too - veggies, fish, etc. We had frozen roasted peppers from them last night and I've also bought frozen French green beans from them. The hardest part is staying away from the awesome bakery section, but they do have a lot of healthy stuff. We have one about 45 mins. away and it's always worth the trip.

They have a roasted red pepper spread that is 0 points I think. It is tasty on crackers, as a spread on sandwiches, with veggies etc.
Its been so long that I forget a lot of the things that I used to get. I found a Whole foods closer to me now, so I tend to go there instead of driving further.

We whave a Whole Foods too but I can never find what I am looking for. What do you like to get from WF?

I just picked up a handout of 3-4 pages from TJ entited "Calories Fat and Fiber" something like that -- is says "Are you watching your calories, fat and fiber?" and i'm like "YES" that's how I figure my pts!! I grabbed one and figured out the pts for all the foods listed, and hope to get to TJ this weekend to try some new things.

My staples now are:

(frozen) Potstickers -- 8 veggie are 4 pts and 8 shrimp are 5 pts with 1 TBSP Wasabi sauces (1 pt)

TJ Unsalted Tortilla Chips and/or Tortillas with Flaxseed -- each 2 pts per serving

(deli case) Low fat Butternut Squash soup -- 4 pts for entire bowl

Hi Protein cereal - 2/3 cup for 2 pts

Hafe Cafe coffee (lite caffeine)

they also have Miss Meringue cookies, low-fat/fat-free cheeses, No pudge brownie mix, chicken sausages (brat) and I saw on my sheet there is a 0 pt Wasabi salad dressing I need to try.

TJ is becoming my favorite place :)

Ok, it's probably not the advice you're looking for....but check out the "Two Buck Chuck" wine! It's really Charles Shaw, but it got the nickname Two Buck Chuck because in a lot of markets it's only $2.00. So far, the types of wines we've tried of it, it compares to very expensive wines! It's quite good (not being a wine connesieur, of course) In our market it's just over $3.

I've actually never been there, I sent my dh on the mission to find the wine. I told him all the info, but he forgot the part that it's *REALLY* called Charles Shaw and apparently he spent about 30 minutes looking for something with a label that said "Two Buck Chuck" ;)

hey I saw some poor sap buying a case of that saturday! actually I saw several people buying that and I thought "Charles Shaw.....gotta remember that"

now i'll never forget it

CheapMom-

I shop almost exclusively at Whole Foods and love everything I have had. Just remember that you're not going to get a lot of boxed foods (i.e. Hamburger Helper, etc) because they are all full of non-"whole foods". Also, don't go looking for brands you are familiar with for the same reason. Instead, have an idea of the type of things you are looking for and go looking for the stuff to make it. The most beneficial part of Whole Foods is that you are getting food without all the addatives, hydrogenated oils, etc that you find in a lot of the popular brands. For me, I feel like this gives me a headstart on my diet because I am already eating healthier. From there, I just read labels and look for things that keep in my desired calorie, fat and sodium amounts.

I know that I haven't suggested any specifics foods, but I hope that I have helped all the same.

Good luck!
Tia
