I can't seem to find the answer and have been on hold for a while. (will try again later). I was looking over my rewards statement and the "grocery" 2% category is lower by about half than what I estimate it should be when I look at my statement. I buy the majority of my groceries at Trader Joe's, the rest at Target (with the red card)

Does anyone know if Chase groups Trader Joe's as a grocery?

hmm, I shop TJs a few times a month and use the DV card, I will have to check it out when I get home.

I have always found Chase to be responsive to e-mails.

Please update if you get clarification

I have no experience with this, but I would suspect that target may be the problem. How does Disney know if you are purchasing groceries from Target vs. non-grocery items?

I don't use the Disney card at Target, I use my target red card for the 5% off. I sent an email, we'll see.

I had a similar question about a different merchant and I was told by Chase that the merchant is responsible for determining their billing category, so the store where I was shopping that *I* considered a grocery store apparently didn't consider themselves as such and categorized themselves as something else. Nothing I could do about it, so I don't get the 2% when I shop there. (Consequently, I am less likely to shop there when I can find the same prices somewhere else that is an equal distance to drive and is categorized as grocery.)

On the other hand, the Target that we shop at always comes up as "groceries" regardless of what we are buying. Works out well for us on that end.

bolding mine- this is what the end result was- it seems that one of the two Trader Joe's I shop at wasn't coming up as grocery (I didn't ask what it did come up as). So I contacted TJ and said (essentially) "hey, I love your store and it's more convenient for me than the other TJ, but you don't come up as "grocery" on my rewards credit card." The guy I talked to said he thought his points for his card were low just because of his discount, lol and that he'd figure out who sets that and get it worked on. ::yes::

I'm glad they are working on it for you. My store (not TJ) was not at all sympathetic to my cause. (Hence the less willing to shop there attitude. :))
