Tracfone's (sp?)

Does anyone currently have one of these? I was thinking of giving up my Alltel phone in favor of one of these because I just do not use it that much to warrant paying almost $30.00 every month. Any opinions will be appreciated!

I don't have a tracfone but i have freeup from verizon, it's a similar 'pay as you go' plan. I hardly ever use it but I put 15$ a month on it and the minutes carry over if you don't use them. There's also a bunch of nights (after 9) and weekend minutes, your usual minutes usually triple during these times. I think when you sign up you have to buy like 50 dollars worth of minutes, then after that you only have to pay 15. If you pay more you don't have to pay monthly, but 15/month works well for me. (as in if you pay 30 dollars you don't have to pay again for 2 months, if you pay 50 i think it's 90 days or something.) They have a variety of phones, and the service works all over the country. (I traveled through out the country this summer and the phone worked practically everywhere.) You can check them out at:

We had one a few years ago, and I didn't like that it charged you for minutes even when the call didn't connect (ie no answer).

I've had one for several years now and I like it. It's perfect for my needs - mostly for those occasional 'I'm running late' or 'Do you need anything at the store' calls and in case of emergency. When I first got the phone, I bought the cards every month or so, but it was kind of a pain. For the past 2 years, I've selected the option of paying once for the whole year. I think it was something like $100 for 400 minutes. For me, that's ideal.
