So are you saying that the refurbished phones don't count?Robinrs said:Important note:
If you are going to use the Refer A Friend deal, the new person MUST have a brand new phone bought within the dates on the email sent to you. Follow the information closely. If the phone is bought and activated outside of these dates, the offer is void, and tracfone will not offer the minutes to you or the person sending them to you.
Also note that in tight periods the email make take up to a MONTH to get to you. Sometimes it takes a few days. Patience is a virtue though, those 100 mins do come in handy!

Tracfone buys time from other towers. When GS and DH was in a small town in tennessee visiting with relatives DH's nextel would not work. But GS's tracfone worked great.djbleach said:After ready the thread I was eager to get my mom an emerency phone. I looked into the Tracfone, and someone was even nice enough to send me an email.
My mom lives "in the sticks" in North Carolina, but near Virginia.
Long story short. I went to Walmart and asked the wireless phone lady about Tracphone and my situation.
She told me that Tracphone really isn't that large of a company and the coverage for the area that my mom lives is limited.
So she suggested the Alltel Simple Freedom phone.
I bought the Nokia 6325i phone (i think that's the model) for 39.99 and then a 400 unit card for 99.99 ($141 total, plus a car adaptor, $8)
If you activate your phone online they give you 120 units, unstead of the 40 units if you call them.
So it's 520 units for $141.
When I activated her phone online, I put in her Area code, and got her the same area code phone number. This area code is a long distant call from my landline phone. I've got the new Nokia phone at my house in Virginia , about an hour away from the area code and it is not "saying roaming"
This is a good thing. They double charge the minutes when you roam.
I've been told that analog towers (Verizon and Alltel since they are the oldest/first wireless companies) are 5 mile reacable. The digital towers are 1 mile receptions.
For some who don't live near big cities may want to look into the simplefreedom plans.
That's exactly what I did! Now my time is almost up and I need to add minutes or get a referral from someone.Toots said:We live in Cary, North Carolina and just purchased our 2nd Tracfone. I bought the 1st for our DS and then recently added another for myself. The service is great and I really like using the phone when we travel since we have the single rate phone.
To try the phone out for less expense upfront, you could go to Wal*Mart and buy the Nokia 1100 Tracfone for about $19.00. Be sure to get a referral before you activate your phone. With the phone you'll get 20 minutes (if you activate on line-10 minutes if not) and 60 days service . After activating add your 100 referral minutes. Once you do this you will have 120 minutes and 4 months of of service since Tracfone adds another 60 days with the referral. So for about $19.00 you get 120 minutes of airtime and 4 months of service. Before the four months is up you'll need to add more air time or maybe refer a friend and get another 100 minutes free. Also, if you don't like the service or the phone you're only out the $19. Not bad for 4 months of phone service anyway.
