to order a phone and phone service for dd.

not ONE OF THE phones (they say) they sell does only texting and phoning.

i asked for one phone without internet and they have NONE!

all their phones have browser/ internet. :(((

Welcome to 2013. Aside from phones made for seniors/disabled even non-smartphones can access the internet and have for some time. The flip phones and older models don't require data plans, but it's still possible to get on the internet.

I bought a Tracfone for my 12 dd at Walmart. She uses it for phone calls only. I think I paid $40 or so in August for the phone plus $60 for triples minutes until January. She just uses it to call me to let me know she is home from school.

but if it has browser/ internet, my dc will just use up all the minutes trying to get on the internet. So I was looking for no internet phone to buy .

I have a tracphone I keep my browser turned off. If your DD is old enough for a phone she should be old enough for a few simple rules, like keeping the browser turned off.

How old is your child? Maybe they are not old enough for the phone?

Is there some way to disable the internet? Or check every few days and see where the minutes went?

I have a tracfone that is about 1 1/2 years old and while it technically does have internet, it is really not usable. I would be surprised if a kid bothered to try to use it often. The one I have is a Samsung slider phone.

DH had one that was really easy to turn on the browser and it used a lot of minutes without him even knowing. I had an LG800 and while you can browse the internet it's not very fast. Just tell her NO internet or she loses the phone, that's what I did with DD years ago, we told her if she ran out of minutes she was out of a phone. My mom has an old one with no internet capabilities but it doesn't have a qwerty so you have to text with the number pad.

Get an ATT branded flip phone off of ebay and get a GoPhone SIM from ATT. Get a no internet plan.

Or get a used flip phone for Verizon and get a PagePlus no internet plan.

Those are just two of the many alternatives available.

Try Kajeet phones. They have them without internet phone and text only. DS has 60 minutes and unlimited texts for 14.99 a month. It can be controlled online so no calls can go through during school or at night. You can make exceptions to be able to call you at home and cell at all times. You can find the phone via GPS. You can block phone numbers if they get solicitation or whatever. Customer service isn't the best but other than that we have been happy with it for years.

thanks. I almost bought the kajeet phone and plan but looking for a cheeper phone (the phones start at $50). Was thinking to buy on on ebay /used but checking to see if that would be compatible with the kajeet minutes plan.

Kajeet is a great first phone option for kids. I would recommend them as well.

I personally use a Virgin Mobile phone and only pay for text and phone, on a pay-as-you-go basis. I put on $20 about once a month.

What you have to remember is that you're paying a bit more for the phone up front, but saving over time on the monthly rate you pay and you come up saving money over most other plans in the first year.

Keep in mind you can use any sprint phone and Kajeet will turn it on too so no need to buy their phones. Maybe ask around if anyone has an old Sprint phone or get one on ebay. Just a thought.

We all have tracfones (two teenagers.. Meanest mom ever.) the browser is so small and slow that no one has ever bothered with it. They know they aren't allowed to use it and it's not an issue. I don't even let them text on it at home. They need to use a wifi devise.

Having a phone comes with new responsibilities and rules that you'll need to enforce. Does he have an iPod for Internet?

Having a pay as you go means he can oonly run out of minutes. You won't have to worry about being faced with a huge surprise bill at the end of the month. It can be a good learning experience. Three years ago I had a flip phone and no data package. we were on our way to florida and my son got my phone out of my purse. He announced that the Reds won. I asked how he knew and he said he looked on my phone. I about had a panic attack! I was really dumb when it came to technology. :D I checked with Verizon and the guy kinda laughed at me and said it would cost $1.99 for one hit. He turned the internet off for me so that I wouldn't have to worry about it anymore. That was with a plan though.

Bought a tracfone, the browser button so conveniently located next to a major key, that even I, could not help but touch/ press on almost always.

Thanks though!

In my area, I was able to find feature phones that would only do calls and texts. Maybe it just varies by region?

I have a tracphone and it IS possible to get the internet disabled, though it isn't something they normally do and you have to jump through hoops to get them to turn it off. Go ahead and skip calling tracphone's normal number and go straight to corporate, it shouldn't take but 5 minutes that way. When I had the internet turned off maybe 10 months ago I had success with the regular number after maybe 30 minutes of supervisor after supervisor but the internet started working again out of the blue this weekend so I had to call again and this time they swore up and down I had not had it previously turned off as that was not something they could do...in the end I had to keep asking for someone higher up when finally the next step was corporate where it only took me stating what I wanted and her saying it wasn't something they ordinarily do but since I was asking she could help me, she tinkered around and asked me to test it and it was off again...I get an error/connection message just like I want. Hopefully corporate will help you right off the bat without having a reference number attached to your phone number.

The "internet" that Tracfone's most entry-level ($15) phones offer wouldn't qualify for internet as you and I know it. If you fear someone going online with the phone, I wouldn't worry about it.

Now texting? That's another animal, and it's something most everyone does, to some degree...
