Has anyone done a TPV club level room at both poly and contemporary? Which did you prefer and why? We love contemporary but have never stayed at poly before...trying to decide between the two.

I prefer neither! TPV at CR is mostly the parking lot to me. Yes, you'll see other MK structures too, (if you could ignore the parking lot). You'll definitely see more activities here than at the Poly.
TPV at Poly is prettier with the beach just a few feet away from the Hawaii building. You can see the castle, which appears ~2 inches tall.
I personally wouldn't spend the extra $ on them again.

Have stayed at both and think a CL TPV at either are among the best room options on property (with the small exception that a Poly CL TPV room can be on the second floor of the Hawaii building which doesn’t have balconies, but the third floor rooms do).

Both resorts have various pros/cons. Both CLs have various pros/cons. Both room types have various pros/cons. I can make a good case for either given various trip length, touring styles, and party size.

Are you purely looking for thoughts on the room / view itself, or other resort or CL attributes?

(To actually answer your question, Poly CL TPV is my favorite resort/room/CL combination, with CR being a close second)

I prefer the Poly to the CR, and the Poly TPV is amazing. So is the CR TPV, but there is also the large parking lot and roads the Poly doesn’t have. With your choices I would prefer the Poly unless you had a ton of MK plans involving special events, early mornings, late nights, leaving at the same time as the crowds, etc.. . Then the CR becomes much more desirable. You are taking a chance on getting the second floor and thus no balcony, which does worry me about our trip this summer. That large up charge to TPV and no balcony will not make me happy.

We are in the minority, I know, but we prefer the view from the CR CL balconies. We also like the CM's at the CR and the convenience of being in the CR tower. Plus, we really like the balconies off the lounge which provides CL fireworks views to anyone staying on the Bay Lake view side of the tower. Finally, you are close to the lounge in every room and you know that you will have a large comfortable balcony at the CR. No worries here.

The Poly is a wonderful CL as well, but you have the potential issue of a second floor room that doers not have a balcony. (Personally I think that all second floor rooms should all be lagoon view, then some people not getting a balcony would be delighted that they actually could see the castle from their room. But nobody asked me when they were classifying the rooms!)

The Poly does have close access to the 2 pools and the lounge has a wonderful 2 story view. Plus, the overall atmosphere staying at the Poly is uniquely special. The feeling that you get when staying at the Poly is truly magical. Don't underestimate the power of those positive emotions that a stay in the Poly CL will provide. Most people just LOVE staying here, and rightly so.

As you haven't tried the Poly yet, I would suggest that you should give it a go this time around. Each resort is great experience, but it is really nice to try them for yourself. Trumping all the pros and cons of any resorts, would be staying there and seeing for myself which I preferred. It its a lot of fun trying new resorts in WDW.

Enjoy whichever you choose!

we've done both. the Contemporary has a great view but i also found while sitting i have to be angled towards MK and once the fireworks have gone off for a couple of minutes, the smoke gets in the way. the Poly on the other hand is further away but its like dead on center. plus the Poly has a great tropical feel to it and listening to the hawaiian music in the background, seeing the tiki torches lit, its my absolute favorite TPV resort.

another downside for me at least @ the CR is when not angled towards the MK, its a parking lot and frankly an ugly one at that. Even during the holidays the outside Christmas tree is just blah and looks like one of those pop-up trees. also the wait to get up and down the elevators can be grueling especially when your tired. 12 floors isn't that high but i keep getting on elevators that stop every other floor for either someone exiting or entering.

Haven't done club level at either, but have done theme park views at Poly and Grand Floridian. Wouldn't do it again. Waste of money.

If you're talking about the view alone, we prefer the CL TPV rooms at Poly over the ones at CR. At CR, we've stayed on both sides of the building and we actually prefer the bay lake view over the TPV. I'm more of a serene-view type of person, so beach/water/Castle is basically all I want to see when relaxing on our balcony. You mentioned loving the CR, so I'm assuming you've already stayed in this type of room? In comparison, Poly looks more head-on towards the Castle so the fireworks show is "straight" if that makes sense. The Castle is from a distance, but the beach/water enhance the view and the Castle sure does look amazing during the fireworks shows! There are many people with great pics from Poly CL TPV rooms - you can probably find some in the CL thread.
