TPAS2 Alumni and friends thread

I don't have cooking duty this Thanksgiving, my sister get's the honor this year! :woohoo: All I have to bring is my sweet pepper relish dip and a dessert...which I'm thinking of getting at BJ's! :rotfl2:

I do however, have Christmas at my house this year!

My husband has to work Thanksgiving day, which is why my sister is hosting! Her husband has to work Christmas day, which is why I have Christmas! We have the biggest houses, and we're the youngest in the family...so the 2 of our trade off all the "big" holidays!

Wic that is really good that the two of you can trade off. I like Christmas at our house. I like to make sure the house is decorated really nice. Christmas is my favorite holiday.

It's makes sense for me to have Christmas too, Kellie is the baby of the family (8)...so this way I don't have to lug everything she gets home! Plus if she get's bored, she can play with her new toys! My sister's kids are now 27 and 24, so they really don't care where we celebrate it anymore!

I don't need to worry about family things, I am the Black Sheep so no one will acknowledge my existence. Makes the Holiday much easier, I take my family out for the day and cook the weekend with all the sale food.

Hey if you have a turkey fryer, then you have just what you need to brew beer. I fry up at least one turkey, quick and easy yall know what a lazy Bsturd I am.

Has anyone tried Beerbutt Turkey? you use a Foster's can of beer and it turns out simply delish. Let me if anyone wants the recipe.

I do, I do!!!!!
I am shocked that you are the black sheep of your family (me--> )
Don't feel bad, so am I. Actually I guess I am the white sheep of mine, the only normal one. Doesn't say a lot for my family, when I am the normal one!:lmao:

I make chicken on a throne all the time. I think it is the best way to do a chicken. Haven't tried a turkey. You would have to use a Foster can.

John, do you make any special holiday brews. Here in Houston, St. Arnold's makes a Christmas ale that is just awesome. St. Arnold's is a small brewery here in Houston. I always try to support local companies especially when they make great products.

I've made the chicken with a beer stuffed up it's butt too! I liked it, my husband...not so much, he was upset that I wasted a perfectly good beer! :rotfl2: I bought this metal can holder that helped keep the chicken standing up at Walmart! I've never tried it with a turkey though, you'd definately have to buy one of the big can's of beer for that though! How long does it take to cook a turkey like this?

We have done the beer can chicken as well as Coca-cola and Dr. Pepper. They are okay but my favorite was one time I took an empty can and added some chicken stock, white wine, lemon juice, garlic cloves and rosemary. That one rocked!!!!

Ooohhh that last one sounds good!

I'm hungry now! :)

Cruz, that does sound good. It is really the idea of those herbs and spices getting steamed into the meat from the inside out that really does the trick.

I always brine my birds in a solution of sea salt, garlic, ginger, cinimmon sticks, honey, bay leaves, and clove. I then have a dry rub before inserting the can half filled with Amberbock and rub. Cooking a turkey is of course a all day event 4-5 hrs depending on the bird. My Holiday brew is a Burbon Vanilla Imperial Stout, a wonderful high alc. beverage with chocolate undertones.

Getting ready for Thanksgiving here. Picking up fresh turkey on Tuesday, brining on Wednesday and cooking on Thursday. Going to make some Sausage/Apple Dressing, Green Beans and Mashed Potatoes. Dessert is pecan pie and apple pie.

What is everyone else having?

Your menu sounds yummy...well except for the pecan pie, that would literally kill me, I'm allergic to nuts! :scared: Good thing it's almost lunch time, I'm getting hungry!

I'm not sure what we'll be eating on Thursday, my sister's the cook this year! :woohoo: I don't have to cook!! :yay:

I got a mail order catalog in my mail this weekend, it had a bunch of christmas ornaments in it....and it actually had a 1/2 page of those Christmas Pickles, with the story behind it! I've never heard of christmas pickles, until T & B told me about it last week....now I'm seeing them all over the place, even saw one at Walmart yesterday!
