TPAS2 Alumni and friends thread

Here's the pickle background:

A very old Christmas eve tradition in Germany was to hide a pickle [ornament] deep in the branches of the family Christmas Tree. The parents hung the pickle last after all the other ornaments were in place. In the morning they knew the most observant child would receive an extra gift from St. Nicholas. The first adult who finds the pickle traditionally gets good luck for the whole year.” This Christmas pickle story, with a few minor variations, can be found all over the Web and in print inside the ornament package. It says that Germans hang a pickle-shaped glass ornament on the Christmas tree hidden away so it's difficult to find. The first child to find it on Christmas morning gets a special treat or an extra present.

A pickle ornament? I'm going to have to ask my uncle about that tradition, he's from Germany! That's a strange tradition, why a pickle?? :confused3 Now a beer ornament I could understand! :rotfl2:

Thanks Tig. I am following the tiara and tantrums trip report and you all had some fun I can tell.

Ah, the famous Weihnachtsgurke story, I learned about this myth after returning to states from living in Germany. I research the famous pickle and though it is done now there is no history of this being done in the past. I know I will have people saying nay, nay you Xmas prude. but it is what it is.
I am sorry, I disappeared for awhile, work became a major pain and I spent most of my free time taking Boy Scouts around the country for various camps.
My famous Elvis outfit with those delightful green speedos found their way to Catalina Island this summer:scared1: , unfortunately my belly flop blew out my shoulder and I had surgery acouple of weeks ago. I took the love of life to the Dominican Republic for our anniversity, shaved off the Santa Beard to avoid the mass of kids that follow me when I travel and rediscovered my passion for good rum:drinking1. Still making beer, I have a delight Pink brew right now, that would knock your socks off:stir: . I was hoping the Dbacks could take it to the Sox, but they lost their way to Denver. I am working a beer booth for Cardinals and it looks like I am gonna be able to work the Super Bowl:cheer2: I won't be going to Land next year, looks like we are going to Islands in May and the Windy City in July. Maybe I can seek something in the fall.:tiptoe: if I am lucky. I'll check back in the morning to see whats going on.

:lmao: BEER??? Did someone say beer??!!??!!??!! I'm IN!!!!!

Hey all

Life has been pretty busy around here. I have time to read, but not as much to post anymore. Did I ever tell you all that I am not Smarter Than a 7th Grader? :lmao: :lmao: The way they teach math these days is making me feel really stupid. crazy crap (not to mention the beginnings of algebra which I totally stink at doing). I have to look up how to do this stuff before I can help Kait :faint:

Frank's team finished the football season officially at 4-3-1 and they had their last game cancelled due to some scheduling conflicts so lets just count it as another win for them :rolleyes1

Courtney is doing well in school and has started her iceskating lessons again :cloud9: :cloud9: She is so happy on the ice and is pretty good at anything athletic, so it should be a fun winter.

I have mostly good days and a few bad with my back and neck (from the accident) but its really not worth suing or going into a long term treatment over. I just deal with it and move on with my life. I have a plumber and contractor coming in this afternoon to give me their estimate on new counters, going from a double bowl to single bowl sink and installing a dishwasher. I also want to take down half of the wall between the kitchen and dining room and put a counter there - it will really open up this area of the house. The only prolem area of the kitchen is this fake brick that is up and they put it up there with superduper glue or some sort of cement....its not coming down. EVER. :scared1: Here is a picture before we bought the house, to give you an idea of what I am talking about:

P1010016.jpg

And the walls are no longer orange, they are pale yellow. Jim says we should paint the bricks white, I don't agree, but don't know what else to do with them :confused3 :confused3 Any suggestions???

Anyway, let me go do a load of laundry and I will check in on you all later!!

Woo hoo, my cup of tea!!!!
I would paint them white but distress them a little so it isn't a solid stark white. I have done this several times for clients. Another option may be throwing up tile right over it. It all depends on where the edges line up and if you would be willing to bump out the electrical boxes a bit. Just my two cents.

Cruz,

Do you do home re-modeling for a living?

Cruz,

Do you do home re-modeling for a living?

I'm an Interior Designer, I do that freelance part time. I have a daycare at home full time, I teach headstart to 3-5 yr olds. All the children I care for are in DSS custody and/or are children of teen parents. I started doing it when I had my second son so I could be home with him and haven't stopped because I feel like it is just too important for these kids (sadly I mean my teen parents as well) to have a place to feel safe and loved. Unfortunately, I am the only decent (and I use that term loosely) role model they have.

Wow Cruz, you are a busy lady! Those kids are very fortunate to have you in their lives!

Let me pick your brain for a sec. How do you suggest distressing them? What color? What "tool"? I think it is a much better (not to mention cheaper) alternative than tiling. I have gotten rid of the double oven and now we have stainless/black appliances. The brown paneling around the bottom half of the kitchen has been replaced by white beadboard like paneling. Jim picked a black/gray/marble looking laminate countertop.

I knew you had alot of kiddies at your house everyday, but never realized the extent of what you are doing......God Bless you woman, you are a very strong individual! As long as they don't find out about the shenanigans of you and wic(cow tipping?), you are quite safe with your reputation as being a great role model.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Hey now, get your facts straight! :rotfl2: I'm the cow-tipper, Cruz is the gang bangin drug dealer! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Linus, you need to post on the Tiaras and Tantrums trip report thread and point out your signature to them... :)

You really dont have to distress it you just dont want it to look like a thick coat of paint. It should have a worn or weathered look to it. Its very simple just apply the paint and rub some off (using a cloth or dry brush) so just a hint of the red comes through in various spots. It looks very funny on just a few, but as a whole it has a very stylish shabby chick feel. I also would not use basic white, something a little more of a cream color would be great.
I will see if I can find an example for you!

Linus, that kitchen picture had me laughing. No offense but that has to be the ugliest kitchen I have ever seen. That is like 70's hell. Thank goodness you are redoing the thang. Only one sink and no dishwasher, ouch.

We are in the process of remodeling our master bathroom. I just got the new plans from the architect. We are taking it down to the studs, moving the shower, granite counters, tile floors, new air tub with chromtherapy, makeup area and more. Don't ask about the cost.

I had to laugh when I saw it too, it reminded my of my last apartment, that kitchen had orange, yellow, green and brown big eagles on the wall paper that said 1776 - 1976, the floor was pretty similar to Linus's floor! Then when we bought the apartment building and I walked in and saw those same floors, I cringed! :scared1:

Sounds like you are going to have one very nice bathroom when it's all done! Make sure you take pictures of the before and after, and post them for us to see! :thumbsup2

Did you all notice one mention of beer and all of a sudden the whole gang is posting!!!
