Which do you suggest...flying into Tampa and saving around $50 per ticket but having to drive . or flying to Orlando and paying more?? We never have flown into Tampa before. How long does it take to get to Universal area. We are going to divide or trip between US and WDW. Thanks!

Depends on how many are flying. I have flown into Tampa, but, found the car rentals to be higher than MCO. BUT, if you are still saving a significant amount total (like 100.00) I would fly into Tampa in a minute. The drive, barring construction delays, should be about one hour. The airport is very easy to negotiate and it is really nice.

Hi Mom,
We have the same situation, never flown into TPA, cheaper tix by about $40x4. We decided to fly into TPA, added bonus is now the flights are non-stop, with MCO would have been one stop.
I'll take the one hour drive over a one-stop flight any day.

We flew into Tampa this Easter as it was 90 cheaper X4 and the car rental was cheaper as well the drive in Tampa at noon was bumper to bumper at about 35mph out side of Tampa 80 most of the way other than around Lakeland down to 65 for construction . We did our grocery stop at super walmart in Lakeland way less busy than the one on the192 near Disney. With the grocery stop it took us about 2 hours . Would I do it again you bet.

We have gone to WDW both ways, MCO and TPA. Flying into TPA to go to WDW it is not a big deal at all because WDW is on the side of Orlando that is closer to TPA. Actually, we found our luggage came out much quicker and the rental car line much smoother. We figure it only costs us about 30 minutes of playtime. Saying that, I now must decide if it is worth flying to TPA over MCO this June as we are staying onsite at Universal; which is much closer to the MCO airport than WDW. At this point, with a $200.00 savings, we will fly into TPA.

Trust me it is going to take longer than a hour with all the construction on I-4. Between Tampa and the Disney exits they are reconstructing the road. Depending on the time of day there are lane closures, traffic, people watching the construction that slows traffic done.
