The iPod or iPhones are lifesavers for us. We usually exhaust some other things first, but nothing beats watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the way to WDW.

I also bring a dry erase board and/or color wonder stuff
We play 20 questions or where am I with the 5 year old (quietly)
little polly pockets for the 2 year old (she loves all dolls & Pollys are easy to carry along)

a little play-doh (if you clean up after yourself) can be lots of fun too. Little, like those party packs.

Honestly, I know it sounds bad but the TV shows almost always work the best/longest at keeping them calm & quiet. The iPhone helped a lot with the toddler waiting for & riding on the Disney busses too. She'll even watch Mckey without sound.

Can someone tell me how to get MM clubhouse on my phone. I am also trying to find a copy of the pajanimals la la lullaby. My daughter watches this everynight after we read and then she knows it is time to go to sleep. I can not find it anywhere.

We have also found aqua doodles to travel and water magic books that are disney. They are less expensive at Walmart but Disney is hard to find. I have also found them at Michaels and with the 40% coupon they are a pretty good deal. Would you really use pipecleaners with a 2 year old. I feel like I would just be playing pickup sticks with them. If you curl in the ends does that help enough? I have not played with these since I was inschool so I don't remember.

Does anyone have the Fishr price DVD player or do you just bring a portable real DVD player.

If you ahve your child in a car seat can they use the tray table in front of them or does it not go down? We have a sit n stroll. So, I am not sure if the tray will come all the way down.

Eye Spy Bottles!

You need one empty water/soda bottle, rice, confetti, buttons, penny, small toys, beads, erasers, foam shapes, candle, dice, pom pom, etc.

Put some rice in the bottle, then add a few items. Continue adding rice and items til the bottle is almost full. You need to leave some room for the objects to move and be found. Hot glue the lid and then have fun finding items and certain colors.

No liquid so you can take on the airplane!

If you make an eye spy bottle, be sure to glue the top down securely. You don't want your kiddo to learn how to open a bottle on a plane and have all the tiny stuff all over you, the floor, the seat, the neighbor...

For a little older kids, I found some more ideas! I'm planning for my 4 year old.

kidsurplus.com has Disney color wonder Nemo and Winnie the Pooh, Magnetic Zoo Mickey, Winnie the Pooh, and Finding Nemo Tins, Cinderella Magnetic Paper Dolls, and Invisible Ink Picture Books with lots of characters, paddle balls (maybe better for the hotel room than the plane!), stickers, and lots of other character stuff at a really good price. I'd recommend them - I've ordered from them before with good results. Just search "Disney."

When my son was 2: Mini magna doodle, a few cars/small stuffed toys, COLOR WONDER!, a cd player, board books, lots and lots of snacks that took a long time to eat.

When he was 3: all the same things, only an mp3 player instead of the cd player (I know, crazy). I also found a tray that fit inside his carseat, and that was great.

Now we mostly take car rides (12-18 hours EACH way). All of the above, plus some special treats and a DVD player now go with us (he's 4 3/4 now). He has a story reader that reads books to him that he loves.

We brought a small dvd player with headphones (2 sets) and we brought signing time movies along with simple cartoons like Bear in the big blue house etc.
Anything that made noise we ensured we had headphones for.

New books, new stuffy toys, snacks, cards, etc. I had an entire bag just for them.

We went from CA to PA (very long day) and I don't remember much fussing at all.

Oh, bring something for them to chew on when you go down.. it should help clear the ears.

I have a 2 1/2 year old. She has travelled on planes since she was 6 weeks old. Currently, I carry coloring books, twistable crayons, color wonder books, color wonder markers (not the glitter kind because they are messy), Leapfrog Tag with headphones (this will hold 5 stories plus the story that comes with the Tag), Leapfrog Tag books, blanket, stuffed animal, DVD player (her own), and DVDs.

I don't think I'm adding anything new, but we brought new books, a magna-doodle, and our portable DVD player (which kept DS entertained at the airport and on the plane). Love the play-doh idea (hadn't thought of that but DS has started really getting into playing with play-doh). I would just make sure to bring new toys if possible (find dollar deals) since this usually keeps them happier (as they are new and "exciting").

DH is bringing his laptop and a few DVDs as a last-case scenario for our CA-Florida flight, but hopefully we can distract with toys enough that DH can play with the laptop instead of sharing.

I *love* the Signing Times videos. I've been taking signing classes and the videos are great for my own practice! They use proper ASL, rather than the "dumbed down" baby signs, and it's a great time for kids to be exposed to a second language. Love it!

I'm writing down all of these ideas to use when we travel with my daughter. She'll be 1 when we take her on her first plane ride next month, so although some of the ideas we'll have to save for future trips, there are still lots of ideas we can use for her this year.

I'm going to have to hunt for one of those spinning light things. She loves things with flashing lights. (Like my computer mouse!)

Hiya all - some great ideas!

I would check your little one is ok with Colour Wonder before hand though - the smell (not strong, but not totally pleasant) makes my girls travel sick!
