I need some advice from the experts out there.

I have a 2.5 year old and a 12 month old (both girls) and we'll have a 2.5 hour flight to WDW in two weeks. :cool1:

I'm bringing our portable DVD player and my 2.5 DD's favorite movies, but I'm wondering what other toys have worked on the plane for other parents out there of 2.5 and 1 year olds.

We just came back from DW and we did not have a DVD player BIG mistake.
Our girls were dying to watch the people behind us. We brought Magna doodle, snacks, coloring books and a couple of books. You'll do fine with a DVD player. Good Luck!

For your 2.5 DD, you could check your local dollar store. I did that once with my DD and DS, at the time 2 and 5. I bought them each 10 presents, and gave them a new gift every 1/2 hour. Sometimes it only kept them busy for minutes, but every minute helps! Best $20 I ever spent. The stuff was small enough to fit in my diaper bag and I didn't care if it ended up in the garbage!

Good luck with the babe!

Might see you there, 13 days and counting the seconds!

big bag of crap from dollar tree!!!

little cars, pipe cleaners, generic magna doodle, some little pooh figurines, colors, paper, fun suckers, fruit snacks, stickers (THESE WERE AWESOME he had the whole seat decorated in front of him, and they pulledright off the cloth).

As the previous poster said, I made sure these were all new toys, so he thought it was his birthday! all kinds of cool new stuff. we had two really good flights (ds 23 months).

We took a Mr. Potato Head with just the basic parts. I planned to get the box of Disney parts, so it was also great for the kids to play with in the hotel room.

This is what I do. Walmart also has a ton of cheap things. Put them away as soon as you land and take them out only for the trip back so the kids do not get board witht them.

THANKS for all of the replies!

The dollar store (bag of cheap, entertaining toys) is a WONDERFUL idea!

Hopefully between the DVD player, the bag of cheap toys and four adults, our two DDs will have plent to entertain them for 2.5 hours.

Here's to hoping, anyway.... :wizard:

We take the bag of new toys and things a step further. We wrap them! That way every so often our little guy has a new present to unwrap and play with. It works like a charm. We've used them on a dozen flights and a half dozen very long (20 hour plus) drives.

Some things we have wrapped and ready to go for our December trip -
Mr. Potato Head
Travel Magna Doodle
coloring books and crayons
magetic book (with pieces that stick to it)
a few new DVDs for our portable DVD player
Play Dough
stickers and a sticker book
a "Tiny Tub" bucket of Dinosaurs
three or four new books (he LOVES being read to and "reading" by himself)

We also have a tray for his carseat. It gives him a place to play, eat, etc. It really makes the trip lots easier. We've used in the car as well as on planes with no problem. Here's a link to the one we have.

I was just coming on to post about this very same thing when I saw this thread. We'll have our 3 1/2 year old and 13 month old. I'm not having any trouble with finding things for the 3 y/o (I have a DVD player, color wonder book, some small games, crayons/coloring books, snacks), it's the baby I'm worried about. We are flying during nap time, so I'm hoping he'll sleep during most of the flight, but if he doesn't sleep or only takes a short nap that's what I'm worried about. I'm thinking just snacks (he would eat ALL the time if I let him!! LOL) and if I can get my older son to give up the DVD player for a little I'm bringing some baby einstein movies for him, which he loves.

Oh, another question for anyone out there. We are flying southwest and since we can pick where we sit, what would be the best way to do it. I'll have a car seat for the baby so he has to be next to the window, so do I put the rest of us in a row 4 across. Or do 2 and 2. Me and baby and then DH and DS3 behind us??? I'm thinking about the DVD player since they might both be able to watch?

I think the Aqua Doodle travel mat is great! My DS loves playing with these. It doesn't take much space to pack but can keep them entertained for a long time. We have the Sesame Street one and also the Thomas the Train one. They are really neat, especially if he/she has never used one before.

We always did the 2 and 2. This way if one of the kids started kicking the seat it wouldn't be that big a deal. Sometimes it also comes in handy to be able to separate them if needed but yours might not be old enough to need that yet. If they are behaving really great then you could even let your older sit next to the car seat and they could still watch the DVD together and then you and Dspouse could even sit together too.
Have a great trip :wizard:
