Toy Story Musical Coming to DCA in early 2011

Thanks, Callie.

I think Aladdin is a wonderful show, but I also think Toy Story will make a nice change.

Thanks! And another reason to visit DLR in 2010. (To see Aladdin before it goes away).

Sorry to see Aladdin go.

Also, as much as I love Toy Story, it seems like a weird choice for the Hyperion Theatre. If the re-vamp of the Hollywood Pictures Backlot area is supposed to reflect what Walt might have seen in his early years, how in the world does Toy Story fit???? (A musical version of an Arabian Nights tale would at least be a possibility. A musical featuring a toy Space Ranger would not.)

So much for thematic consistency...

I second what Hydroguy said, Just another reason to go back in 2010.

I really, really like the Aladdin show, but I think it's fine for something new to come in. It sounds like the musical will be Toy Story 1 which I do find a bit disappointing, though, as there aren't really any female characters in it except for Bo Peep. I suppose they'll do what they can to make a more balanced cast, though. (Realistically, Aladdin doesn't have any female characters except Jasmine, but she's a lead whereas Bo Peep is really a minor character...I just know as a little girl, I would have been a touch disappointed not having anyone to relate to in the upcoming musical.)

I'm sure it will be a delightful show, though!

We saw Alladin for the first time last year and thought it was terrific! But my family does have a special place in their hearts for Buzz and Woody!! :cool1:

Well, that is very interesting. I too love Aladdin, but my family really loves Toy Story. Hopefully it will translate into a great stage show. Seeing Aladdin one last time will be a priority during our upcoming trip.

We still miss Blast!, and we'll miss Aladdin. Hoping TS The Musical will be as good as both of those productions were.

I sure hope we get there this summer to see Aladdin one more time. I don't see Toy Story as appealing to as wide a range of people.

Aladdin was a good show and it will be missed. I only saw it twice, but I really enjoyed both (although the second one I was so tired I almost fell asleep).

Hopefully the new musical will be just as good.

I really loved Aladdin but I love Toy Story, too, so I guess I'm not TOO disappointed. And I bet a lot more little boys will be into seeing this show instead of the love story Aladdin pretty much is.

Well, that is exciting news!
I hope it is like the Toy Story show on the Disney Cruise. We just saw it a few months ago and it was really cute and well done. I wasn't expecting much but really, really enjoyed it. :)

This is welcome news from a mom of 2 boys (ages 3 and 5) who have NO idea who Aladdin is, but who LOVE Toy Story! I am trying to get them used to stage shows, but Aladdin holds NO appeal for them at ALL! Toy Story will get them in the door, though. I've seen Aladdin enough. Time for something new!

As for thematic consistency...that argument falls flat on its face, sorry! That whole area behind the ToT will soon be Pixar Cars Land. There is already a Bug's Land...and the Hollywood Backlot area is ALREADY home to Monster's Inc. And, let's not forget Toy Story Midway Mania at Paradise Pier. They are not going to theme the ENTIRE park the same way. Just the architectural details in the different areas will carry the theme...not the actual attractions!

First of all, I'm not talking about the theming in the whole park, so I don't know why you're bringing up Cars Land, Bug's Land, and Paradise Pier. :confused3

The Hollywood Backlot area is to be remodeled/re-themed to Buena Vista Street, which is meant to represent the Hollywood that Walt experienced when he first arrived in California. They are even adding a Red Car trolley that will run from the entrance back to the Tower of Terror. "And here on your left is the Hyperion Theater, showing Toy Story, The Musical."

It will be awfully anachronistic (to say the least).

We miss it, too! Blast came to Orange County last year or the year before & we got tickets to see it. It was just as good as I remembered. The only thing missing was that young girl on the cymbals who had her own "fan club." lol I think they are in Japan this year. I check their site periodically to see when they will be coming back to our area. :)

I don't think so. The area may be themed, but I think the live shows should be whatever the public is going to enjoy, and won't take away from the theme of the Hollywood Backlot at all.

I like Toy Story as much as the next person, but at the rate things are going with the changes being made to that park it should really be changed from Disney's California Adventure to Disney's Pixar Play Park. :rolleyes1

I'm good with "Pixar Park" or "Disney/Pixar Studios California" :thumbsup2 IMO Pixar has done nothing but improve the Disney brand.

I completely agree. And I say what would it hurt to give "credit" where credit is due? After all, it seems that a vast majority of what will be revitalizing that park will be Pixar based. In addition, I'm wondering if having Pixar in the title would encourage more people to attend. "Disney/Pixar Studios California" is a great idea...especially since WDW used to have their studio park called "Disney/MGM Studios" without it sounding too strange and Disney actually owns Pixar now.

I watched the Toy Story Musical on the Disney Cruise Line ship in February of this year and it was excellent. But I can only imagine it being even better off the ship and at the Hyperion.

Remember, it ties together nicely with Toy Story Mania, which for some, is one of just a few reasons to head over to DCA.
