I am planning our upcoming trip this weekend, and was looking through some other threads and noticed that Toy Story Mania has no fast pass, so how bad is the line? I remember booking it at WDW to the fp line before they sold out when we were there two years ago, or else you waited in a line for over 2 hours. Is it not as popular at DL?

It is popular, but without FP, the line averages 30-45 minutes.

It is the most popular ride in DCA. And at rope drop most people go to it. The main reason being every other popular attraction in DCA has FP. As Danger Mouse mentioned 45 minutes is probably as bad as the line will get on the weekend.

It's definitely popular, but you don't have the super long wait times like at DHS in Florida. Part of it has to do with the lower daily attendance at DCA vs. DHS. And of those guests at DCA, a good portion of them are local annual pass holders. If they don't ride Toy Story on one visit, they can try again another day. This is in contrast to many of the vacationers at WDW who don't have the option to come back to the park in a couple weeks to try Toy Story again, so they make sure they ride it on their DHS day(s).

It's rare to find the line for Toy Story longer than 60 minutes. Usually it's between 30-45 minutes. as DangerMouse and skiingfast have posted above. Just last Sunday (on Easter), I got in the Toy Story queue at 5pm with a posted wait time of 30 minutes. And I was on a ride vehicle in 24 minutes.

Good luck with the rest of your trip planning and have fun this coming weekend!!! :goodvibes

(edited to add)
This coming weekend includes the big Pirates of the Caribbean movie premiere at Disneyland. On Saturday, DL will have shorter hours and traffic challenges around Main Street and in New Orleans Square. You've probably seen that in your research, but I just wanted to make sure and mention it here.

..and worth the wait! Plus the line seems to move pretty steadily..

I've only gone during crowd seasons and I have found that the afternoons are usually better than the morning for that ride. I've gone by there 11am or so and found the line at least an hour. Later in the afternoon we head over there and it is around 40 min. I'm not willing to waste DL time to wait in line at DCA.

I know a lot of people say the line moves fast, but to me it feels like the slowest line in the whole DLR. It is boring and hot and there is nothing to look at. When I saw videos of the line at WDW, I was really disappointed that ours is so crummy. :sad2:

I'm curious to see how Little Mermaid affects TSMM this summer (if at all). Will it cause the TSMM line to shorten because everyone is at the other ride? Or will it bring even more people in to the park? Last summer, with WOC opening, I was surprised how many people were in DCA. It was much more crowded than before.

I agree, I don't think the line feels that fast because like you said, it's boring!

We've also noticed that the line gets a little shorter in the afternoon but during our last trip I realized that one advantage to going in the morning with a possible longer line is that it's not as hot. I think the heat is part of the reason why that line seems slow to me. So future trips i might be willing to wait a little longer and go during a cooler part of the day.

I've only been to the DHS one in FL, so what you're saying is no cool themed queue and no talking Mr. Potato Head? :sad1:

There is a talking Mr. Potato Head. I haven't been to DHS so I can't compare the theming other than that. At DCA it has a boardwalk feel theme.

Well, that's good! My 6-yr-old is hoping that Mr. Potato Head will talk to her again. :goodvibes

Re: The line theme...

There is a talking Mr. Potato Head but that is ALL there is! I was very dissapointed in the line at DCA. They should redo it and add more like the DHS line! However I don't see that happening as they don't have the room for it but a girl can dream!

I have to agree that WDW's line is much better -- on our family trip to WDW this fall I will likely skip the FP dash and just go right to TSM so my kids can see the amazing queue.

TSM at DCA doesn't get quite the insane lines as DHS. It's tucked right under California Screamin', so lots of people are focused on the big rollercoaster. I'd get a FP for Screamin, do TSM and everything else on Paradise Pier, and you should be ready for your Screamin FP.

One other note: I may be the only one with this kind of bad luck, but the last two times I've been to DCA (Oct 09 and Dec 10), TSM was down with problems parts of the day. We ended up having a CM call from across the park to find out if it was back up before making the long trek from the Backlot.

Regarding queues DLR has much less rain and much less heat and much less humidity than WDW (one of DLR's distinct advantages BTW) and this means there is much less need for indoor, air-conditioned queues. Further, DLR has much less space than WDW (one of WDW's distinct advantages) and thus DLR has less room for queues.

For TSMM this means a charming queue at DHS and a boring, mostly outdoor queue at DCA. It is really a function of the unique advantages and limitations of each resort and not because DLR's queues are inherently more boring.

The part that bothers me the most about the queue (as far as theming goes) isn't the outside part, it's the small inside area. I think they could have done something a lot more creative and fun with that area. With all those little tiles it reminds me of a bathroom, lol. And I really don't like the strobe light effect that happens with the ceiling fans being under the ceiling lights. That was bad design. They could have at least picked more interesting colors. Okay, now I feel better that I've vented my frustrations about the TSMM line, lol.
