We are visiting Florida from the UK and although we are going to do all the parks and normal 'tourist' attractions, we wondered if there were any interesting/historic towns/places we could do a day trip to. We will have a rental car for our entire stay.

Any recommendations?

St. Augustine is about two hours north of WDW and has a wonderful historic downtown.

Mount Dora has great antiquing and a quaint downtown area.

Winter Park has a wonderful downtown area with galleries, shops, and restaurants.

In Clermont there are four things, Showcase of Citrus where you can pick your own oranges and take Swamp Buggy rides, Lake Louisa State Park, the Citrus Tower, and Lake Ridge Winery. Additionally downtown Clermont has some great little pubs and restaurants on or a short walk from the water. We like Benchwarmers for great food and a nice atmosphere. It's family oriented during the day, but turns into more of a pub in the later evening.

I second ducklite's suggestions!. Kinda far away in Ft. Myers is the Edison Ford Summer Home museum which we really enjoyed.
