Can you get a towncar from Olando airport to Disney without reservations? I know we can get a taxi or take Mears, but can we get a towncar? I thought maybe they waited there also, Is there a ground transportation desk that we would be able to help us?

I am pretty sure that you have to make a reservation ahead of time for a towncar service lomillerin.
Is there some reason why you wouldn't want to book ahead of time?

::yes::
we had no ressies for our transporation and we just asked a skycap where to go and he hooked us up w/a towncar service that was making a dropoff. the skycap said that it would probably cost us 95.00 r/t but DH told the driver that he said it was supposed to 80.00r/t which he said that's right. so we kinda got a deal. it was through melody transporation our driver was jean(very friendly & informative(his wife works for disney).

forgot to mention it wasn't a car but a ford expedition. we had brought our own carseat on the plane for DD i'm not sure if it could have been provide otherwise (if you need one;) ).

Even though you got lucky with the rate given to you, and lucky you got a reliable and safe driver, I wouldn't suggest anyone accepting offers from skycaps or from anyone else for that matter.
Solicitation is a very serious problem in the Orlando Airport. They have fired numerous skycaps for offering transportation services (which in return give them a small fee for the referral).
There are also several owner-operators (towncars and Van drivers) soliciting in the airport (mostly in the baggage claim area). The airport suspended numerous transportation companies that were engaged in this kind of practice.

Again, do not risk you vacation by using such services. It's an illegal practice, and most of all, they might not come back to pick you up after you already paid for the roundtrip (most of them give false telephone numbers).

One more thing. Does Jean own the company? I wondered because with this rate it seems he got himself an extra $80.00 in his pocket while using the company's vehicle.
No real company in Orlando would do a roundtrip in a Expedition for $80.00 without loosing it's business to bankruptcy in a few short months.:earseek:

actually i was not aware of the problem at MCO when we asked the skycap where to go he was actually taking us up to some transportation desk where we could have gotten a cab, taken mears or called for a town car service. DH was leary so he only paid him half of the fare and we scheduled our pick up and he agreed to take the other half on the return. it seemed to be a legimate, well run business. yes we do consider ourselves lucky that we "were not taken for a ride." and yes Jean is one of the owners his cell # is actually the one on the business cards and web site. we will use them on our next trip but we will be making resies in advance. the only reason we didn't make resies for this trip was because our flight time had been changed 3 times prior to departure.

A few weeks ago, my DD arrived at the MCO Mears counter, and there was a very long wait. She asked about a towncar, and soon a Mears towncar showed up--and she was on her way! :smooth:

A quick question: Did she pay at the Mears counter or directly to the Mears Towncar driver? Many Mears drivers are also soliciting in the airport. Actually Mears did also fire many that used to do that.:smooth:
