Town car VS Taxi

Hi!

I'm thinking of using a town car service for the following..

1. Airport to Port Orleans Resort
2. Port Orleans to Hard Rock Hotel @ Universal
3. Universal to airport

I'm questioning if the second one (WDW to Universal) would be better off using a taxi? How far is it to drive?

I'm from Sydney, Australia and I really don't know how much taxi's charge there...so what do you think would be the cheaper option? Taxi or town car?

Thanks so much!

If you're staying onsite at a Disney hotel, you shouldn't have to pay for trip #1. You can use Disney's Magical Express which will take you from the airport to your hotel.

In general, taxis are cheaper but they sometimes drive like maniacs. (major anxiety source for me.) The more trips they can squeeze into a day, the more $$ they make.

Sedan or Town Car service companies give more personalized service, have cleaner/newer vehicles and usually don't drive very aggressively. They come at a pre-designated time and assist with luggage. They're usually more expensive and automatically add in a 20% gratuity. (find out for certain so you don't pay it twice.) If you don't want to be pinned down to a certain time, it may be easier to call a taxi.
All children 5 and under must be in a car seat/booster seat by law in FL (very lenient compared to some states) so if you will be needing this too, a sedan service can provide it. It may be difficult to find a taxi with a child seat.
I hope this helps.
BTW, if you've never been to Hard Rock Hotel, you will LOVE it!! Can't beat the FOTL! :cloud9: :thumbsup2

Thanks for your help.

It's just me and my partner travelling...so I'm going to go with a taxi from WDW to Universal. You answered my question perfectly!

I've never been to WDW or Universal before....only ever been to LA, Washington DC & Vegas in the USA so I'm SO EXCITED for this trip!

Thanks again!

No, the Florida law requires all children under 4 to be in a baby seat. 4 and up can use the regular seat belts, a booster or a baby seat. It is all up to the parents.

If you want a baby seat in a txi just request it. Many taxis and most all taxi vans carry baby seats.

Town cars are becoming old as they are no longer produced. The going fad is the Ford or Chevrolet SUV. The price is about the same as any other vehicle choice. Mist SUV's will seat 6 - 8 passengers.

Thanks for clarifying Edd. I had a feeling I was off but keep getting it confused with NJ laws. :goodvibes

....Town cars are becoming old as they are no longer produced.....

First of all the OP's question was about "Town Car VS Taxi".

Also, the Lincoln Town Car is the most popular vehicle used in the livery industry. The Ford/Lincoln Mercury company is working closely with the limousine market, and it's coach builders, just the same as they have done for many years. Lincoln has it's booths marketing Town Cars at the next couple national limousine shows as they normally do. They are switching the production of town cars from their Wixom production plant to the St. Thomas plant. They are spending a LOT of money tooling up that production facility. The new plant is scheduled to start rolling cars by January or February 2008. Bottom line, Lincoln Town Car Limousines and Town Car sedans, ...they will be around for a long time.

According to the cab fare estimator from the Mears website the cost of a taxi from WDW to Universal would be about $25 plus tip. Cab fare from Universal to MCO would be around $30.00 plus tip.

A town car from WDW to Universal will cost around $35.00 plus tip and then from Universal to MCO $55.00.

It is good to hear the Automotive industry and Ford are planning to retool and put the town cars back on the road. I am sorry I commented they are getting old, but I am happy they will be back out shortly as they have been the staple of the transportation industry for years.

My comments didn't mean anything derogatory about the car, but I have always felt that Ford made a wrong decision to cut the production of them and I was a little bit upset with Ford. I appreciate YayaGoofy for setting me straight on what was happening.
