I have done Drop Zone at Canada's Wonderland twice :scared1: ... both times giving in to peer pressure (first time it was from friends from university, second time it was from the high school kids I was chaperoning on a field trip). While it wasn't my favourite ride, it was OK. :upsidedow

Based on this, do you think I can handle ToT? It's one of the few rides at WDW (aside from RnR and TSM) that I haven't ridden yet. I'm hoping to conquer the two DHS big ones this upcoming trip (and will definitely do TSM), but need some reassurances. (My sister, the total roller coaster chicken, did RnR last trip ... so I'm guessing I'll be ok on that one!)

ToT is way different than drop zone. ToT makes many drops not just one or 2 and there is the tension and buildup via teh theme and storyyou go through before you ever get on teh ride or even get to the top. It is a truly terrific attraction but no where near drop zone I find drop zone pretty uneventful and boring in comparison.

Totally Agreed!! I loved ToT soooo much last time, I had DH and DSs waited for me to go twice!! The whole build-up was fantastic! :thumbsup2

Yikes ... not sure if this helps or not!

I agree that Drop Zone is pretty "boring" in and of itself ... yes you get the expansive view of the park at the top (I convinced myself to actually open my eyes the second time I rode it), but then it's just the drop. I bet the buildup on ToT would keep me from thinking about the upcoming drops so much ... hmm, that's what I'm going to keep telling myself anyway.

In terms of "drop length" what's worse ToT or Drop Zone?

I HATE Drop Zone

I LOVE ToT

ToT combines a couple things that are very bad for me - heights and motion. That said, I make sure I have taken something for motion sickness (even more helpful on RRC) and ToT is always a must do. It is among the very best of Disney.

ToT is way worse or better depending on your views. ToT drops you for a small initial drop about 5 stories then raises you up drops you 13 stories over and over again. It is never the same number twice.

Love Love Love ToT! :goodvibes It's one of the best attractions in all of WDW. The preshow, the CM's are awesome, the whole ambience. If it helps you any, my Mom is 74 and ToT is her favourite ride at WDW! And you would never catch her on RnR or EE for example.

Like I tell my kids, and strangers waiting in line for the ride that are apprehensive, "try it once ... if you really hate it, the ride will be over before you can even make that determination." :thumbsup2

I love ToT. You are not focused on the ground while you are going up. The ride's storyline is great. The drops are quite mild. They are short drops at a time. Drop Zone is different. It drops from top to bottom is one shot. Drop Zone is more like the one in Island of Advanture.

I love ToT too!!! The drops are great. The worst part is the tension buildup right before the first drop. (I'm the one in the picture with my arms up. oh, and screaming)

Even if you don't ride, you might want to check out the rides interior. If the lines aren't too long or others in your group are riding, go with them and ask a CM where the 'chicken exit' is right before you board the 'service elevator in the boiler room'.

My friend's parents didn't want to ride but they stayed in line with her until the last minute. They were glad they checked out Disney's attention to detail.

I am another one who does not like Drop Zone but loves ToT. It is a fun and amazing ride!

In terms of just drop length; Drop Zone, as it's almost double the drop of ToT.

It's worth it to go on and then use the chicken door right before you board the elevator if necessary, as in typical Disney fashion, ToT is an experience, where Drop Zone is just a ride.

Ok ... this I can work with ... I actually somewhat enjoyed the first bit of the Drop Zone drop - until my brain started screaming "when is this gonna end?" Shorter drop means less time to start worrying about stopping! :goodvibes

THANKS EVERYONE for you replies, encouragement and "chicken out" suggestions!

I like both Drop Zone and ToT, however, their thrill is offered in a different way. Drop Zone tends to be nerve wracking because you're out in the open with your feet dangling, plus of course, you're up quite high!

On the other hand, I find that ToT builds up the tension and suspense with its theming. I was able to handle it better though because it's not out in the open, your feet are firmly on the ground and the drop isn't quite as high (albeit, there is more than one drop).

As many other posters have said, it's a fun and amazing ride...give it a shot! At least if you don't like it, it's over before you know it.
