I used to love ToT when it first opened. Probably because it was predictable (only one or two drops and you knew when they were coming). Over the years, as they've increased the drops, I've gotten more and more scared of the ride, but still did it. The last time I rode it was in 2002, and I told DH I'm done with that ride. I'd like to be able to go on it for him, but I need to overcome my fear.

Now I've read that there are even more drops and there is no lap bar, only a seat belt. I really want to overcome my fear and enjoy this ride.

Any suggestions? My heart is pounding like crazy just thinking
about it!

How does the seat belt change the experience? Is there anything to hold onto? What is the largest # of drops? What is the least? Any info. would help. I'd love to be able to love this ride again!

Well, with the seatbelts you stay in the air longer, and the last time I rode, there were only two little drops and one big drop, but one person mentioned that they got seven drops...

Yikes, 7 drops!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the most I've experienced was 4 or 5.

Is there anything to hold onto now that there's a seat belt instead of the lap bar?

Yes, you still can reach out and grab the arms of the GHOSTS of the missing guests...

MwwwaaaAHHH- Ha- HAAAAAaaaaa!

there's still a little thing you can hold on to..unless you are in the suicide seat..*muhahaha*

Just kidding before (kinda)

But many (most?) riders find the added thrill of no heavy BAR across in front makes the ride more er, PLEASENT!:hyper:

Let's all sing, "Its raining, its pouring, la-la-la-la-

LAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhh.:earseek:

Thanks for the info. I suppose with seat belts and something to hold onto, I might summon up the courage to ride it.:confused3

I just went on ToT in March 2004 after not being on it since like 1999 or so, so it was quite interesting when I forgot how much gravity works on this ride! lol! I accidently wacked the person next to me with my shopping bag! Luckily he understood!

I think I dropped like 4 or 5 times!

Lol,something like that happend to me once. This woman in next to me had a camera, and when we dropped, the camera flew out of her hands and hit me in the face.Wasn't very pleasant...

Well I have always been scared to on this ride but I still do anyway because I know if I dont, I will regret it after. But anyway I could barley make it with having the bar I would still freak out, but this year there was no bar and I realized that when the elavator door closed I was freaking out, I had no idea. But in the end I was glad I did it because if I knew before there were no bars I would have not gone on, but no I am glad that I did because I overcame my fear. ::yes::

Good timing, I just this morning went on a tour of the attraction :)
There are now grab handles at your side to hold onto. Also, if you slide into the row first, you also have a handle on the side of the wall (these are the seats I prefer ;) )
Seatbelts are much safer for each individual rider. Lapbars were a false sense of security...when you had a large sized guest seated with a small child, those lapbars were not LAPbars for the child at all, but level with their chins, faces, etc, causing them to fly up from the seats.
Although I can't tell about most of what I saw today, I will tell you, I came away with much less fear of the ride...it is very very safe. I was very impressed with structure design and machinery mechanics.
The drop sequenses, 4 different ones, are random, selected by the computer. Some have more drops than others...2 of them begin by going UP first, instead of dropping first.

I have to ask... what's the suicide seat?

The suicide seat is the middle seat in the back row,the only one without something to hold on to.It also used to be the only seat with a seatbelt.

The "suicide seat' is gone. One seat had to be removed from each car to conform to the new seatbelt seats.

Thanks, PandyPaws. If I go on, I'll try to get on of those side seats next to the wall!

Hello everybody!!!
I used to ask the CM for the suicide seat(belt)...
Im a freak and always love the sensation of terror
because I dont have anything to hold ...

I know this ride has been around forever... but my first experence on it was Easter 2004... I won't get into the reasons why DH and I havnt been on it yet (2 small kids).
Who ever invented this ride is mental... I have never been on anything so wild.. I loved it.... we had 3 hugh drops and 2 smaller ones.. DH lost his voice screaming... and almost his hotdog he ate just before..lol...
We only got to ride it once.. because of the crowds..and FS was hours away into the day...
We are going back in August, I will drag DH back on then.. can't wait..

I am disappointed to hear that the middle seat is gone....I always requested that seat!! I still love the ride anyway and can't wait to get on it. I know that when my parents/sister and I went in 2003 my Mom said she would never go on again b/c there were more drops than she remembered in 1997. I say the more the better!!!!
