Tower of Terror question (about the ride effects)

I've been on ToT numerous times in the past, but was recently on it and right when it was about to do the drop sequence, it stopped....the lights came up and they were having the messages about technical difficulties.

While we were waiting I noticed on the right side there was full sized elevator doors and the floor number thing on top, except the whole thing was on it's side and the number "9" was on the doors. This was right before you enter the drop shaft area

I've never seen this when the lights are out and Im pretty sure its not for the effects, so anyone have any clue as to why that would be there?

I haven't been up there in a while, but if it was before the laser light mirrored door, and the elevator doors were on their side, then that is part of the show.

Most people don't realize the 5th dimension floor is supposed to be you "moving vertically up a shaft" - ie everything is sort of sideways. It never made much sense to me, but whatever. Especially since all the other effects seem normal. But the "set" is supposed to be turned sideways.

^That was a failed affect by Disney in an attempt to disorient guests. It was a cool idea, but it isn't very effective.

I'm pretty sure that means you were on the 9th floor. (If I'm not mistaken, that's what floor you are on when you move vertically, because that's how high the "short end" of Tower is)

This is interesting! So far all of these posts seem logical, but maybe...the doors are there for in case of evacuation or for other safety reasons. Maybe they added the looks of it to make it "blend" more when such lights turn on.

Again, I have no idea lol.

That must be it, although it was more like after the laser light door, since it was at the very end of Rod Serling saying "in the Tower of Terror" when we stopped.

I never saw it before and I never thought we'd supposedly be going vertically...hmm...
