Hi there, I am trying to figure out some things about Tower of Terror at MGM.

Do you stand up on the entire ride, are you strapped in at all?

I want to take me DS 7 but don’t know about free falling floors upon floors at a time. Can anyone give me some in sight.

ToT is a sit down ride. It may very well be the coolest ride in WDW. I can't imagine your son not loving it, once he gets on it.

Hi!

ToT is not too bad - I went on it alone because I thought my boys 4,7,9 were too small to ride. I think it's different for everyone but I thought it was pretty intense - and I am looking forward to go on it again!

Have Fun! :flower:

Hi,
we took our then 5 yo DD and she BEGGED us to let her on. Since she met the height requirements,we did.She LOVED it. You don't stand, but are seated, and there is a bar and I think straps. You do free fall but not all floors at once,it's several then you hold for a few seconds, then again. It's really not too bad,we LOVE it! Good luck!

You are strapped in a seat. We took my 9 year old niece on it and she was a little "shaken" after the ride. But, then again she is not into thrill rides like coasters and such. You would be the best judge of that.

There is a great website I think it is tower_of_terror.com that has a lot of fun facts and information about the ride, including a walk through of the queu.

Thanks for the link but I could not get it to work, can anyone confirm that

tower_of_terror.com is the right site?

I HATE free fall rides :bitelip: and felt like ToT was very tame and mild. I was hoping for more visual effects or storyline during ride......pretty much get in the elevator and drop a bit ~ no big scare......I wanted to be scared.....but was not. Try this http://www.wdisneyw.co.uk/attot.html for more info.

My 7 year old niece was terrified of this ride. Shaking, crying, a complete mess. But we still forced her on (terrible Aunt here :rolleyes1 ). She didn't care for the ride at all, but I think she was secretly glad she tried it at least once. In our defense, she cried and carried on for a few other rides that we forced her on, and she LOVED them, so we knew she just had to try everything first.

With that being said, I would suggest trying not to call it Tower of TERROR to your son. With our niece, any ride that had a "scary" name was ultimately what caused her fears. I would just refer to it as the Tower or Hollywood Tower and hopefully that helps.

Just an FYI...there is no more bar that holds you into the seat, there is now a lap belt that secures you in place. Yes, you do sit in it just like the other rides, but a lot of people do think that you stand up like a real elevator. I really enjoy the ride and ride by myself because no one else will. It is worth it to take the time to even ride by yourself....it is one of my favorites. Also, there are small handles built in between the seats for you to hold on...good luck getting a grip on it you have to share with your neighbor :)

It is really cool. The first time I rode it was with some trepidation but did great. It's one of my favorite rides now.

I can't wait to ride TOT again, i had to miss out last trip b/c i was pregnant... this time around i plan to go on it with ds (5 y.o) and dd 3 y/o both LOVE thrill rides and i think they will be just fine, but that's MIO and my kidos! Glad to hear the bars are replaced with seat belt restraints! :)

ToT "falls" faster (is pulled down faster) than free-fall.

Have been on ToT numerous times in recent years (after chickening out for a few years prior) and others riding often scream loudly at least as if terrified.

one of the best imo but i like thrill rides. a 7 yr old might or might not like it imo...dark, "ghost" like images then the falls, most in the dark/enclosed shaftlike area but you do go up to the open area and see how far up you are...if he likes adult aged thrill rides he'd be fine if not maybe not. and imo you get a lot more lift with out the bars....i held onto the hand grip the whole drop with only the belt..tough if someone else wanted it !

Yeah, he has never really been on any other thrill ride, is anything else in Disney comparable, that maybe I could try him on first?

I would try it myself first, but it is just my son and myself going on the vacation, so that is out of the question for sure

The TOT leads you to believe you are free falling, but you are actually being pulled down.

One time our bar did not come down, it broke. We freaked out thinking we were going to die. Of course we were fine. We told a cast member afterwards. She brought her manager out and explained how you are pulled down. So even without bars or straps you would not actually float so high as to bang your head into the ceiling.

the magnetic transit thing... tomorrow land transit authority...at mk used to ( i think still does??????) go through space mountain and you can see the ride from the safety of the humdrum slow moving cars...sm is a roller coaster but has some of the same darkness elements...if he freaks at that i'd say forget tot

eidited cause had to look up the name of the magnet transit thing :confused3

Is it really a terror? I think it will depend on each kid who rides.

My oldest (now almost 14) has a love/hate relationship with ToT that goes back to the time he was 7. He rode it then with dh and loved it, then rode again with me, and was screaming so hard and loud I thought something must be really different from before! He then decided he had no desire to go back on. Next trip he rode it and loved it again! Then the next trip rode it and said he really didn't like it and woud rather ride RnRC instead. edited to add that he loved it after that and loves it now!

My youngest (now 10) is okay with the ride itself, but still says that the beginning of the ride (in the lobby, watching the Twilight Zone video, walking through the boiler area) is the scary part.

They do have a chicken elevator if he decides not to ride at the last minute.

To warm up for ToT (which is my favorite ride of any ride in the World) I agree that the TTA would be a good intro to the dark of Space Mountain, and things like Space Mountain and Haunted Mansion (both for the dark/spooky kind of atmosphere - if those are too scary, ToT will probably be). Really though, I can't think of a ride that is close enough to ToT to compare with due to the fall (well, Splash Mountain has a "fall" - maybe you should see how he does with that fall first?).
